we are spending a few days 20 miles past placerville (california) this coming weekend . . .
was wondering the best place to take kids (11-12) so they can have a chance to catch a fish . . .

I would go up to the Crystal Basin recreation area. Ice House Reservoir day use area. Union Valley. Loon Lake. And for a real treat - Girle Creek Reservoir. Nothing but wild brown trout in there. Use nightcrawlers. Inflate em and float em up off the bottom.

Forebay res, Pollock Pines. Forebay Rd is the trailer park rd across from Raleys, east end of town. Follow N to a neat pond and park.

Forebay reservoir has been over fished. Nor has Fish and Game has planted any fish lately. Would recommend else where as previous recommendations

Thank you conroy. I didn't know. What a neat park. Two years ago I caught fish off the dam face. Spent years in Crystal basin, quit when it became party central, Disneyland. I really liked Un ioun valley, the irrosion rip rap wiped out the bank fishing for us.Boat only. For us anyway. The 40' beaches they left are for swimmers. Our last trip looked like meth city. Hell with them.
