If you could ONLY fly fish with one type/length/wt of rod, what would you choose and why?

Medium Fast/9'/5wt.
Pretty much a great all around rod for Idaho where I fish.
Edit: Also personally I would probably go for a fast action just because I am more used to it. Beginning I would go for a medium fast and would probably be happier long term with it.

Fast action 8' 3 weight. I almost exclusively fish for trout on the fly so I don't really need more for other species. And my home waters are all smaller, a 15 inch fish is about the top end of normal big for me. Same for where I travel to if I go west. I can still 'bomb' a 30+ ft cast if I had to and I can still high stick/czech smaller waters.

9' 8wt. Down in South Florida, fishing ten thousand islands and big bass. I miss tossing nymphs.

Really? Why’s that?

Once I jumped on the euro bandwagon, I haven't really used anything else if I have the choice. Easy to get a good drift.

If it was the only rod I could ever use, I’d go 9’ 6-weight in case I wanted to fish something bigger, like steelhead. It’d probably work. If you’re looking to buy a rod that’s good all around, I’d go with 5 weight and if you decide to hunt bigger fish, then get an 8 weight.

Loc: Lake Onalaska, Sunfish Capitol of the World!
I have a 3#, 5# & a 8#, all custom built, but I use my 5#, 9' most of the time.
9'6" 9#. Its really way to heavy for trout but if I carry only 1 stick I need the extra strength for some of the saltwater fish I target.
Salt # 9 -10
Fresh #5 east - #6 west !
If I could only fly fish I would stop fishing
If you are fishing mountain streams or small rivers (streams) tenkara gets my vote. I love mine and it is soooo easy to use. Affordable too. Simple and it catches fish.
