How to begin?

About 2.5 years ago, I joined the Fishing Stage and started meeting some amazing people who shared a passion for fishing. Over that time, was able to share some great stories, pics, jokes, etc. You get to know the characters, and who you might like to fish with sometime in your life. Thus, this trip became a dream and now a reality. I will soon be a very young 78 and my lovely wife 75. So, I started playing around on mapquest one day and presented it to the little lady. Told her, we were not getting any younger and that we should do it before our bodies couldn't. I felt it was pretty aggressive for people of our age, but if we took our time, we could do it. Low and behold, she went along with the idea, but I had to promised that I would NOT fish with everyone along the way. So, I worked in family, friends, scenery and way stops on our journey. We don't particularly care for Hotels/Motels and prefer B&B's and Inns. I feel you learn a lot more from locals in an area as compared to concierges, and their advice is free.

Highlights: Doing this trip with my best friend, my fantastic wife of 55 years.
Obviously fishing with some great fishermen and really awesome people. Tim, JB, Steve & Ben, I can
not thank you enough for taking me out.
Lunch with my uncle on his 102nd Birthday
Glacier National Park - Amazing
Montana - Wow!
Idaho - Beautiful country and rivers and Lunch with Randy (CH)
Scenery - Ah the scenery
Great Weather most all the way, we were lucky!

Side Notes: 76 Road work signs with the ever beloved "Single Lane ahead"
Owner No show at a B&B in Idaho
Deer in the road, but let it go off into the forest
Nail in the tire, somewhere in Central California
License Plates 40/50

Eateries: Black Bear Diner - St. George, Utah
MudMan Burgers - Somewhere in Idaho
Bad Bettys's BBQ - Idaho Falls or was it Helena
Windbag Saloon - Helena, MT
Seven Devils Saloon and Steakhouse - Riggins, ID

Gas: Total of $702.00
Temecula, Ca $6.25
Nevada $5.27/$5.64
Utah $5.24
Idaho $5.04, $4.62
Helena, Mt $4.74
Whitefish, Mt $4.54
Oregon $4.86
NoCal $5.69
CentCal $5.43

Man has created a lot of good things but cannot compare with what God has created. My advice to all my friends at the Fishing Stage, do a trip like this sooner than later. Pick some great fishermen, and people you like and take off on an adventure. So many times, in my life I have seen couples plan something like what we did, only to lose their mate and never make it. Thanks to all who followed along with us, and I sincerely hope you enjoyed our story and pictures.

I have included a few pics, I may have missed along the way, sorry for any duplicates.

In parting: I asked my wife where she would like to go on our next trip? Response: On an airplane!

Thanks for the recap OBG, you brought back memories of me and my wife's road trips as we got a few in before she got sick and passed and you are so right, couples need to not put it off. I will cherish the memories of our trips together as long as I live. All told we made it to about 35 of the lower 48 states and had plans for the rest but didn't get the chance to go on more. Once again thanks for sharing your memories

Awesome story along with the pics OBG. As you know many of us traveled with you. Some wishing we were there, some planning a trip like yours, and even some of us just along for the ride.

Thanks for taking us along and a day by day account while traveling. Made for some interesting conversations among us sitting at the same spot day in and day out.

As for that airplane trip, just don't let the Mrs step out side for a breath of fresh air.

Beautiful pictures Garey, and a great recap. I completely enjoyed following your travels and seeing the beautiful countryside along the way. Thank you, and your beautiful wife, for allowing us to tag along.
Someday I hope to attempt a similar adventure.
