Went to the Iittle Nemaha River to fish for catfish or gar tried liver and worms on the bottom for catfish no go cast top water for gar caught what looked to be a big fish got excited realed to fast hadn't checked the drag to tight fish came out of the water broke the line braid was frayed fishing from bridge 20 feet above the water think I did every thing wrong.

That's a long way down to the water. Hard to land fish of any size liftin them up that far.

Try a drop net to bring them that far up.

Gar on top water? That would be a first for me. Honestly wouldn't want one. One nasty fish there.

Did bridge fishing a lot in dodge, burt, and cummin counties, on the Bell and Cummin creeks. A reel fun way to fish. Used liver under a bobber for cats. Occasionally caught drum and carp. Yeah buddy that's fun! Tight lines!

The River looks low, looking at the bank. I snagged a gar once, just to see if I could do it, then let him go. 20' is a long way, I think the fish would have the bends by the time you got him up. Thanks, for sharing, db.

Actually the river is up compared to the last year I think I saw a way to get down the bank will try next time

Information found on the internet thought maybe gar could be used for cut bait

Look on Amazon and find, Pier Net, like they use fishing off tall docks and walls. I use one at the "Tubes" below Tuttle Creek in Kansas. Real thrill with a 10 - 30 pound cat on the rod in one hand and the net rope in the other from that heigth.
