hat creek fishing report . . .
California Fishing
missed my may trip to hat creek (shasta county, california), but planning on being there in october . . . any idea what the fishing has been like ???
There are a couple of guys on here that frequent that area. They may be along. I'll be heading up there once I've healed up a bit more.
thanks . . . i stopped going at the start of the season . .. way too busy . . . october brings fewer anglers, lots of hunters . . .
Where do you stay when you go up there? Or do you live up there somewhere?
i live in santa rosa . .. i usually stay at hat creek resort . . . did split time between hat creek resort and rimrock ranch before the owner trashed the place . .. there is now a new owner who has the place looking good . . .
I was up there last year and we stayed at hat creek resort. Was ok. Clean and comfortable.

the place in question was rimrock ranch, which is in good shape following new ownership . . . have been staying at hat creek resort for a long time with very few complaints . . .
Just out of curiosity, is there still camping on hat creek? I have not camped and fished there since the early 70's
during the pandemic, a number of public campgrounds were either closed or limited . . .
i think camping is now allowed for the most part . . .
i have fished there for more than 50 years . . . learned to flyfish from my dad . . . love that place . .
and JJ's Cafe is an incredibly good place to eat in Old Station . . .
Really. What's good there?
breakfasts . . . omelettes, scramblers, everything . . . but just about everything on the menu is good and unique, and they have a solid selection of beer, including from the Fall River Brewery . . . try the Hex pale ale . . .
Hat creek has ben producing limits as well as Baum Lake that has some bruisers in it. They are tough to get to bite though. My buddy fished it last week with power bait and 1/16 ounce rooster tails and did well.
i didn't know they allowed bait in baum lake. . . it does produce some nice trout . . .
i usually use a float tube and fly fish . . .
there is also good (lures and flies only, certain catch and release restrictions) fishing available below the powerhouses . . .

Was up there last week and did well. For me they were hitting power worms.
