My wife caught this bonito last week half a mile out of St Lucie Inlet. This isn't considered good eating for some reason around here. But we'll see. For now it's in the freezer.

It had a calamari in its stomach. Talk about being greedy and gobbling up lure when you still have food you haven't finished digesting.

The meat actually looks pretty good.

Don't listen to them. False albacore are excellent eating. Due to reason that the flesh is quite red, some think they are poor on the table. We serve them as sashimi all the time. If you put a blindfold on those who think they aren't good and feed it to them, they would think it's tuna.

Another way we love them is on the grill. Cut thick slices and only grill for a minute or two on each side. Excellent! Just do not over cook false albacore.

My cousin did a quick sear on thin slices of one for me and it was good. Not my favorite fish but very edible. He did add a Cajun rub on it.

They taste as good as tuna if you dress it correctly.
When you fillet it after cutting off the skin you will see a very dark strip of meat running down the center of the fillet.
You have to remove the dark meat.
It will ruin the flavor if it's not completely removed.
It makes good chum, bait, dogfood and cat food.

Thanks for the advice! I didn't even think about that dark strip.
