You mean the smaller catfish? I caught it on a trout eyeball

Oh man, that sounds like a blast. I'm still figuring out the hookset on handlines, but man when it does work the fight is unbelievable.

I’ve been using 10 lbs test because my line has snapped and I’ve lost at least 3 big ones like that. I wrap my line around 2 fingers 3-4 times then wrap it around my hand once. It gets a little tangled sometimes but it’s really strong. Once you see the fish just start to swim away with what your fishing with, jerk the line up like a typical hook set. Get ready for a fight though. Because there’s no drag, and especially with that fish it was taking me for a spin. 10/10 would recommend. And I’ve been thinking about taking my GoPro so I could record the mayhem.

Ah, thanks for the advice! I use a cuban yoyo...I got a bunch for like $2-5 each. Pretty much every time I put new line on a reel, I put the old line onto a yoyo so they've got everything from 5 to 60 pound test on them.
I've found it's helpful in getting some casting distance. Just spin it around by your side, release, and point the yoyo in the direction the line is going.
What sized hooks are you generally using?

For every fish I’ve caught I was using a 3/0 offset bass hook. Any bass hook would probably do the trick

What’s really breathtaking is seeing this shadow of a 5 pound largemouth come out from wherever nook it’s hiding in and you can watch it DEVOUR your bait.
