Last week I had the opportunity to take the Grandson of some friends cane pole fishing in a weed-choked pond on the property we rented near Saugatuck, MI. Lucas is almost 3 and was full of questions for me, as well as the fish 😂
The pond was about 1,000sq ft and was deep enough so as not to freeze out as it held at least one 15” LM that we couldn’t get to commit more than once. We did get it to suck in a small jig once, but it spit the bait before I could get Lucas to raise the pole to set the hook 🤷🏼♂️
Lucas held my hand for the most part and was fascinated by each of the bluegills we caught and released during the few hours we fished, chased frogs, etc.
On the day he and his family were leaving, I brought back a box turtle for Lucas to learn about. That kept him busy for a good half hour as his Grandpa packed the van to take the family to the airport for their return flight to Houston. It was great to get away with the Wife, friends and their families and see the world through the eyes of a 3 year old again…even for just a few days!
Back to reality! Can’t wait until my now 3 month old Grandson Henry is old enough to join me!

That is great OJ, I’ve not as of yet had any grandchildren but remember the times quite clearly with mine. They stay with you for a lifetime.

You are a good man OJ to explore the world with a 3 year old. Hopefully you, the fish, and that turtle made a lasting impression in that young mind.
