This covid has got me stuck down in the chair,
Observing my bird world out back.
Been going thru suet,
But who woulda knew it,
My feeder's been under attack.
It's fun to watch how the other birds wait,
They sit with apparent respect.
They'd never be takin him,
God had fun makin him,
And they don't wanna be pecked!

Never seen one eat out of a feeder before.

Great poem TRBass, the last several years we’ve had Emerald Ash borers that have decimated our white ash trees. Kinda looks like they’re headed for the same demise as the American Chestnut. Anyway, the pileated woodpeckers have recently flourished along with the downies, hairy’s , red bellied and flickers. Lots of nesting cavities in these dead trees and plenty of easy splitting ash for the winter although I certainly prefer some nice white oak or even better locust.

Super skiddish. Even tho I was inside, this bird was fully aware of his surroundings, so I had to move very slowly or when he had his face buried in suet in order to move camera. And when they do see you, they take off like an eagle. Beautiful, cool bird.
