An Aborted Duck Hunt!

I liked to duck hunt, particularly for Mallards on the various ponds about 5 to 10 miles from where I lived.
On one of these trips I drove out around 5:00 PM giving me about an hour to an hour and half of legal hunting time when I expected the ducks would be returning from the fields.

It was ‘blue bird’ weather, and the ducks did not return on schedule as I had expected. After a while I to give up and go home. Where I had parked had been flooded earlier by runoff water, but was now dry, but not completely, the surface was still a little slick and wouldn’t you know it, I was stuck! Now here I am
stranded at least 5 miles from home in the middle of nowhere and had no way of calling for help.

I judged it was about 2 miles to the nearest farmhouse, so I shouldered my shotgun and started walking.
Fortunately, the family was home and allowed me call my wife. When I got her on the line, explained
my situation, she refused to come and get me! Well, I really could not believe it. I then called a hunting buddy and he came out and picked me up. When I got home it was around 10:00 I never said one word about the incident to my wife, she had said she had our children in bed and wasn’t going to rouse them up to come and get me. The next day, the ground had dried up enough that I was able to drive out with no problem.

So, what you have done in this situation? I was mad for a long period of time, but kept quiet about the
entire situation. I do not, and have never slapped, struck, or in any way shown violence to a female.

I suppose this was the only time I ever considered bending her over my knee and giving her a few pops with my belt. Just for defying me. Just Sayin...RJS

Ya could’ve slept in the car and hunted in the morning.!

Wow - that's a tough one. I love to hunt ducks (unfortunately I need to drive quite a bit farther that your 5-10 miles....). Got stuck once but a truck towed me out that was on our ranch at the time. Regarding your wife's situation, I think it's likely best to bite your tongue, stay on the apology train until you notice a thawing in the icy treatment. You're a classy guy - and still married, so I'd bet that is what you did.

Americanman28: I never said a word to her about my being stranded and having to walk home. From when I was young and in the first grade anf started to school I had five girls and me in my class. Any argument or disagreement the vote was always 5 to 1, even if I had suggested the sun would be overhead at noon, it would be 5 to 1 that it wasn't! So, whatever you say will be held against you. I still, if there is a heated disagreement, just stop and say no more.

However, I did finally divorce her, years later and over different matters. Now, looking back, I had never forgotten all all those situations where she had not come to my aid and those were remembered. Just Sayin...RJS

Oops! Sorry about missing that piece. I did think it was odd that she wouldn't come to your aid as your spouse, but figured I would try to stay out of the details. Too bad- her loss! And, I am just sayin'!

I was in a similar situation.I was deer hunting about 2 miles away from home .I parked on the side of my friends property in a ditch. It was a 2003 Ford Superduty ? It had a v-8 with2wd and an automatic trans.I went hunting for a few hours and no luck. I walked back to my truck and the grass was still wet and it got stuck. I called my wife and she came right over with a chain and my 2000 Honda Civic. I worked for Honda for 36 years and it was my only other car .I hooked the Honda up to the truck and pulled it out.I thought about making a video and sending it to Honda .It would have made a great commercal.
