Hello. Been off stage for awhile. Beginning a search for an electric motor for small 12 foot rowboat for now. Looking for a quality, reliable make and model that is in the mid to better price range. Also, what are absolute musts in a motor and what are extra bells and whistles and why good idea for same. Would like some different quality makes and models so as to see inventory available. Would appreciate any info. Thanks

Hi Anybass. If you're looking for a clamp on, transom mount motor, they don't have any of the bells and whistles. If you want stuff like built in transducer, spot lock, or bluetooth, then you need a deck mounted, bow model. I don't see many 12 footers with a bow deck so you'll have to build something. Good luck, and post some pictures of your project.

You're welcome. I made a small deck on my 14 footer, but went cheap with a basic Powerdrive motor. I could have stepped up and got the I-Pilot model with spot lock.

I made it out of King Starboard plastic sheet

Hi AB The bells n whistles cost big money brother. Some get heavy so be careful how much weight you hang on her nose. Good luck in your search brother 👍

If you're only going to have 2 people and a little gear you might consider a transom mounted motor. Newport Vessels makes a really good and inexpensive group of motors. Ranging from 36 to 55 lb thrust. I have a 36lb on my 17' canoe with my wife and all our gear and it does fine. They are available directly from their site or on Amazon. Good luck
