I use a fishing pole and worms and I get 1-2 fish every 2 worms. I would also like to get anything other than bluegill fish.
Welcome to the stage, full of information, helps when all the information is given. Michigan is a very large state, narrow that down a bit. I lived in Grass Lake between Ann Arbor and Jackson. Lots of places to fish. Do you fish from the bank? What lake? What type of rod/pole? Some call or refer a pole as being made of 'cane'.
There are more options besides worms. You can try crawlers, leeches, grubs, and minnows (perch and other species like them) and plastics for some of the larger game fish. You can check with your local bait shop to see what's being used. As far as equipment goes, you have options like baitcasters, spinning rods/reels and your trusty cane pole. Those things may get you other fish besides blue gills.
If you want to catch Bass consistently then a spincast or baitcaster with artificial lures (worms, spinners, cranks, topwater) is needed. Plus you’ll need to target certain structures to hunt for the big ones.
