Define skunked

I hit Cascade Lake today and I gotta tell it how it is but I’m not sure if I got skunked or not. I caught a 24 foot pontoon boat but no fish. Actually it caught me but I reeled it in and released it. 😂. The pontoon boat trolled right over the top of both of my lines with downriggers and caught em both. It was kinda fun at first because they saw me but didn’t realize I had casted a good 30 feet beyond where they were trolling next to the bank. I was sure they were gonna get in my lines but the fishing was dead anyway so I just had a little fun with them. Once they hit the first line they noticed a bump on one rig so I tripped the bail and let their line relax. About the time they sat back down I gave it a jerk like Moby Dick and they both flew outs their seats at about the same time they hit my second line. They had a heck of a double going on there for a while until one of em looked over and saw me jerking on their lines with mine. They kicked their boat outa gear and I reeled em over to the bank with a little help from both guys paddling on the boat. They were only about 20 feet off the bank. A good laugh was had by us all and we didn’t even break a line or have any real bad tangles. My two rods were about 60 feet apart on the bank.
Now there’s a fishin story for ya😂😂

You were skunked more ways than one Cat. Glad you all could laugh it off. Could have gone really bad there.

What's the minimum size and bag limits on pontoons out there Randy? If it's C&R only, then you didn't get skunked.

I'd say that you had plenty of fun with the event, and I would call it a successful day...especially since the fish seem to have taken the day off! I've had a few downrigger tangles with other fisherman over the years...while in a boat as well as a kayak. Depending on what you have in the water, it can also end up in quite a mess. Glad that yours came out easy!

Good point Fred. Yeah I think it’s catch and release only here for boats. I tried to find it in the regs but couldn’t.😆

The fishing here usually dies off to about zero by the end of June and the water toy people take over anyway. I’m a bit surprised I caught few last week out there but I’ll head north from here now for the rest of the summer. We have, literally, hundreds of lakes and rivers here open year round for fishing so I’ll go where I won’t catch boats next time👍

Yup. The way I figure it’s just fun to have fun and that could be doing just about anything. Even catching boats. They do put up a decent fight though. Especially those boats pulling skiers that don’t know they got your line. Most of them spool ya or just break ya off if you can tighten the drag quick enough. I’ve had that happen more than once. Last year I was fishing with my boys in the boat and a ski boat came flying by right behind us. We caught the boat, thankfully, and not the skier. That would hurt. 😬. It only takes about 2 seconds for a ski boat to break ya off. Most don’t know they got your line and worse yet they don’t care.

My pet peeve is Jet Skiers, they have no consideration at all about where they travel or the closeness to your boat, or fishing line!

I had two lines in a small channel in Texas, when a boat came in very fast. I reeled my lines in as fast as I could but he got one of them along with about 20 feet of braided line, a steel leader, a 1oz sinker plus hooks. I could hear the sinker hit the motor every revolution of his prop. Made my day to think of him trying to get that mess off his prop.

Me too Kandy. All people are not that easy to get along with. I casted out too far and they were trolling too close. Seems we both kinda messed up so nothing to do but have some fun with it👍
