New to bass fishing but grew up catfishing. At 42 I just started to get into bass fishing a couple months ago. Fishing from shore only. I live in Iowa and mainly go to a local lake called Lost Grove Lake. Anybody else out there fish here and have any tips? I've caught fish here but the biggest I've gotten is maybe 4 lbs. I feel though I just been in the same spots fishing everyone else has been in. Not sure how to go about improving on anything.

Hey Noob! This is a great place for ideas and encouragement. And some funny stories as well. While I'm not in Iowa, I've fished for bass plenty from the bank. If you're truly new to bass fishing, you might be inclined to throw a spinnerbait just because of how that lure is marketed. And I gotta say it to be fair, lots of guys have luck with em. Speaking just for myself, I find the spinnerbait boring. Cast, retrieve. Cast, retrieve. π΄ In the right conditions, you can have good luck with topwater, shallow running crankbaits (I say shallow running cause we all know what the banks do - get increasingly shallower. You will get hung up easier.) Plastic worms have consistently been my favorite for bank bassin. Whether you rig it Texas style or wacky style, I bet you find some good'ns that way. Natural colors, especially. Good luck to you!!
Thank you. I've tried some of those you've mentioned. One thing about the lake I fish at is the water is fairly clear but is pretty heavily vegetated. So I feel I'm limited with things because a lot of lures I've tried get stuck. Maybe wrong lures to use, to much or not enough weight, wrong technique, don't really know but trying to figure it out.
I get that. Before I moved back here to Table Rock, I lived in a farm with a 5 acre pond. Dang near threw my arm out trying to cast across it. Half way was it. Heavy vegetation calls for weedless frogs (have to chuckle. Auto correct changed that to seedless frogs π€£). In the right time, that little rig will draw em up. I'd still throw the heck out of Texas-rigged worms. And I swear by 1/8 oz weight. Go on, all you long-casters. I hear ya. Uh huh, I enjoy me some fine backlashes, but still happy with the lighter weight.

Welcome to the Forum noob !Good Luck & Tightlines to ya!!π€π€
I fished there when the upper section was all we had and there have been a lot of big bass caught there. It was easy bank fishing if you want to walk. Can't remember hardly ever getting snagged much.
Use your frog lures early and late in the day. Let it set a while, twitch, set, slow jerky moves, set near shore. August into fall, frogs are all ways on the menu for big bass.
