Reason for action: In an effort to increase prey abundance for Southern Resident Killer Whales, 567,560 spring Chinook salmon were released in May of 2019 from the Fork’s Creek Hatchery. WDFW anticipates a limited number of returning 4-year-old Chinook from this one-time release will be available for a targeted fishery. This is a unique harvest opportunity that won’t occur again and fishery managers encourage anglers to harvest those hatchery-origin Chinook that are encountered.

If they’re 4 year old fish you won’t see them till fall. At least that’s how it works everywhere else. Sounds like it might be fun in the fall if they let you fish for them then. Those fish go all the way up north as far as the gulf of Alaska. Hence the reason for orca food. Very doubtful fall running fish will be in your neck of the woods in the spring but that’s kinda how that west coast management works. Good luck either way and we’ll looking forward to some pictures. And welcome aboard by the way. 👍😎

We get spring chinook every year hear. Just better runs sometimes. Our columbia river is the major highway for all types of fish traveling from our coast at Ilwaco boutique 10 all the way into Canada. Spring chinook are loaded with so much oil I think their better than the famous copper river salmon and the springers usually start coming into our river systems in April. Then the summer king will start to show up and then the fall salmon start in then we go to coho season. JFYI. thanks for the welcome. Search out the columbia river fishery if you like. Also huge sturgeon available in summer month's

Gotcha I though you said they were 4 year old fish. Sorry. They don’t let you fish sprinters there usually?

I spent over 20 years fishing the Columbia river and I know what you’re talking about. Lots of fish for sure. 👍

Since we normally may retain only hatchery fish (clipped fin) can you imagine how busy that guy was when he had to "clip" over 500,000 fish? Hmm...
