Avoiding The Lakes On Busy Holidays

Even when I lived and actively fished in my boat, after a few close calls while fishing during holidays like the 4th of July, Labor day ect.. the overload of jet skier's and pleasure water crafts I found I had a better time fishing on my Pier, until the work week pulled most of the yahoos home. I found out city folk's had no idea two guy's running a trotline in shallow water with jugs on it, meant don't run us over, got their prop wound up my line and drug 50 hooks across my T-shirt and put multiple cuts across my stomach.

Now that I'm retired, I try to stay off the water even on regular weekends. The only exception is on lakes with a low speed limit. Everyone on a 10mph lake is there to fish. Be careful out there PB. Have a safe 4th of July.

i learn the hard way about fishing on holidays these weekend warriors think they own the boat ramp and lake .
Igot swamped more than once so now i don't fish from friday saturday sunday and monday they can do what ever they want i'll stay home fishing tuesday-thursday fits me find. What gets me they bring boat load of junk and they
have to block the boat ramp to empty the suv. then they go park it and every one is just standing around holding the boat by the boat ramp waiting for the person who park the card thats on the phone talking to who knows and you are stuck wating for them .

I'm pretty slow loading all my crap into my boat (in the rigging area), and I often wave others to go around me if they're behind me,but ready to go. But when they fly by the rigging area, and proceed to load their boat at water's edge, my pressure goes up 100 points. What the He!! do you think we're doing in the freaking Rigging area???? Morons!!!!

Lc18, Boat launch etiquette has never been great, overall, but now... it's ludicrous. You would think after waiting themselves a few times, that they would catch on. But as others have observed, theres no sense in being out on the water with those nutz anyway.

I agree with you all last when the kids were up I took the boat out fishing with my son and grandson while waiting for my son to bring my truck and trailer down I got bumped 3 times by a wave Runner by the same lady the third time was enought I told her to get off the the the wave runner if she did not know to use it !! I was tried up at the dock and I was at the far side of the dock and I'm pretty nice about thing but the 3rd time I lost it.!!!
People have no manners on the water any more.

The main problem I have run into on weekends or particularly holidays are the drunks on all the watercraft. I use to work Water Patrol for the Houston County Sheriff's Posse and we run into all kinds of alcohol-related accidents. Nine deaths in one year, but one was a suicide. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!!!!

Because there’s no idiots under your tree stand to show how stupid and inconsiderate people can be like they are at the boat ramp. Plus your goal at a boat ramp is to, either get IN the water or get out. Waiting is your goal in a tree stand but I see your point. Oregon was full of those inconsiderate boaters and I was frustrated more times than not with people getting their boat loaded and ready at the water line on the boat ramp. Very common there. It don’t happen here where I live in Idaho. 👍

I couldn’t agree with you more. All it took, in Oregon, was a 15 minutes test on line and $20.00 and I got a boater’s safety card good for life and that’s all you need there to operate a personal watercraft on Oregon waters.
