Anyone have experience with the Berkley Lightning Rod and/or the Bass Pro Shop formula spinning real?
Looking to get set up with a spinning rig. I will be targeting primarily trout in mountain reservoirs, lakes, and ponds in Northern Utah.
A friend of mine recommend the following set up — Berkley Lightning rod and the Bass Pro Shop’s formula spinning real.
Anyone use these or have any experience with these?

My father swears by Betkley Lightning rods. And has recently convinced me to buy one, a casting rod, but I do love it. Im not completely sure what reel you're taking about, but in my experience with BPS brand products, they're great. I have a lightweight spinning setup that was a complete I bought from BPS. And I use the hell outta that thing for about 2yrs+ now with no complaints. Reel is very smooth, great casting distance, great action with the rod, sensitivity is good. I would definitely recommend Bass Pro brand products.
Hope this helps, don't be shy if you have any other questions.

No sweat dude. I should point out we mostly bass fish. But we've used our setups to do some trout fishing too. Just some power bait with a swivel and weight, so nothing really technical. But they seem to do the trick no matter what we do for freshwater.

We started buying lightning rods when they first came out, probably at least 20 years ago. Always found them to be the best in terms of sensitivity and stability. I haven't fished in a long time, but I highly recommend them.

I been using Lighting rods for 32 years and Still use the same Rods Today...
since my lightning married a Pflueger President Spinning Reel it is a match made in heaven.
Great for casting 4# leader with bubble on 8# line aimed at trout. Great fun to watch the bend in the rod. Use a net though so as not to lose the fish.At the price they cannot be beaten
Have used them for 35 years and they work great for me.
Lighting Rods are a great choice. 5' 2piece light or 5'6'' 2 piece light. And a Shimano Fast Cast spinning reel. This rig will cost close to a hundred dollars tho. The reel will be at 60 dollars and the rod will be around 40 dollars.
I would load the reel with Berkley Vanish, a fluorocarbon line 6 lb. depending on the size of the river your going to fish. The Shimano Spirex 1000 on the lighting spinning rod will be killer, in my opinion. Fenwick also has good rods for spin fishing rivers, but at a little more money.
I have been using the Berkley Lightning rods with Pflueger President spinning reels for the past two years. They seem to have more body than the Ugly Sticks which I replaced, but they can break at the tip. Overall I prefer the new set up.
