It was a beautiful day at cascade lake yesterday. Partly cloudy and warm. 70 plus degrees. I caught 23 bullhead about a foot long and two 16” perch. For some reason the bullhead were on the bite all day. More pictures later. The wife handed me the honey do list before I could get em all downloaded to my computer. 🤷‍♂️

Caught everything on my kabob bait. I was the only one there that caught fish (7 guys I could see and no boats) but I had to earn em. 6 hours on the lake and two keepers. Actually it was the ONLY two perch I caught all day. I was kinda shocked I caught those dang bullheads all day long. They’re normally a late evening deal but there was an early algae bloom so that might have had something to do with. 🤷‍♂️

Caught 23 of these dang things all about a foot long and threw em all back. Yellow bellied bullheads. They put up a decent fight and break up the monotony though.

First perch about two hours into the day. 16 inches

Got two total and the second one was after about 14 more bullheads.
Got two total and the second one was after about 1...

Both 16 inches but the one on top weighed way more. 2.7 pounds on the top one and 1.9 pounds on the bottom one. 3.25 is the standing world record (recorded). I’m a ways off😂

You’re welcome. I’ve eaten black bullheads before and they were pretty good. I haven’t tried one of these yellow bellies but everybody around here says they’re not good eating at all. I might have to try one some time. We sure catch a bunch of them at that lake. Some close to 5 pounds but most are around a foot long and a pound or so. Not much meat on a one pound bullhead.

Cascade lake here is 17 miles long and 3 miles wide at the widest point. Lots of different fish in there. So far I’ve caught steelhead, large mouth and small mouth bass, native rainbows, Kamaloops, Pricilla perch (jumbos) bullheads Kokanee, Blue Gill and Chanel cats. Along with those there’s supposed to be tiger Muskie, mackinaw (lake trout) pikeminnow, carp and some sort of suckers as well as land locked coho salmon. It’s an awesome lake and only 60 miles from my house.

Nice catching over there catfishhunter! Love those Giant perch! As a kid we used to catch those bullheads and smoke them. they were "OK", but kind of a strong taste from what I remember. Might depend on the environment they come from as well as diet. At least they provided some steady action...like you said!

Nice Perch Randy. We have Brown Bullhead, and Yellow Bullhead here. We always used to catch the Brown ones when I was a kid, and they were delicious. Never caught or ate the Yellow ones. Thanks for the pictures buddy.

Thanks Fred. I guess I’ll have to try one of these bullheads some day. Sure not a problem catching a bunch of em.

What is your kabob bait. I must have missed that post.

Great catch.

Remove most of the dark meat from any cat, and you are good to go. Like you said though, that makes for a small fillet. If people don't like the taste of fish, I don't understand why they don't eat something else. It is the same with deer. I am always amazed at all the number of people who love halibut. Halibut is almost tasteless. Halibut is way low on my list. That being said, Halibut is great when breaded and fried, if you do not want anything to interfere with the great taste of fried bread.

As I have said before, I love that lake, but I would buck the heat and be at CJ Strike this time of year if I was fishing the Boise area. The perch are not quite as big, but a lot more plentiful and still big enough to get a good frying filet.

Sorry. I thought I sent this early but I guess I didn’t.
My kabob bait is simply a two hook set up with a night crawler, marshmallows and a rubber garlic power bait ball to keep it all on the hooks.
We catch a bunch of perch trolling out there but that’s a little too expensive right now so we’re just bank fishing. It’s a cool $200.00 a day to go boat fishing here right now with diesel fuel over 6 bucks and non-ethanol about the same.
I’d still like to make the 200 mile trip to CJ Strike some day but that will be after I hit the lotto or gas prices come back down within reasonable rates. Probably won’t make it this year🤨

Nice catch! I've been catching really big trout trolling, but now the green already is here an I had to take my boat out of the water cause it can really mess with your engene an stain your boat. I wish you luck on your fishing adventures! I'm the camp host it at French crk.
