The woods are lovely, dark and deep...

DANG, what beautiful trout, I envy you. What a thrill on a fly rod. What wt rod are you using?
Thanks for the great pictures!
Thank you Kerry! My favorite set up is a 5 weight, fished with a floating line and a huge dry fly for the attraction. These fish can be caught "sub surface"...but having them come up and slurp a fly off the top is the thrill I am after with this particular hatch!
I have well over a hundred individual large mayfly imitations that I use, but the "down wing" pattern that lays flat on the surface is my best producer. These are some "naturals" floating on by.
This robust late night feeder fell prey to a black deer hair mouse fly fished "dry" in the surface film. Cast out, then retrieve in short twitches and pauses. Get ready to have the rod shocked right out of your hand with a strike!

Thank you Dave! Just got back from a 3 day "pup tent" camp out in Luzerne...not too far from you! Fly fished the South Branch AuSable during the daylight, and night fished for the hex on the Main River after dark. Did not do very well for trout, but I did have a blast on Wakely Lake for LM bass and pike!
The mayfly hatch has been a puzzle this season, and you almost need to go out every night in order to hit it right!
Fishyaker, been to Luxerne many times. Only fished there once and only caught a few small brookies. Beautiful country in that area though! Sorry to hear you didn't catch the hatch but at least you were able to make up for it on Wakely. I've heard it's an excellent lake but haven't had the chance to fish it yet
