Damn good day Fred, ya had some reel fun. Sorry to hear that your line snapped but at least your knot didn’t fail.

Thanks Brad. Yeah I should have retied after the early fish. I start with about 6ft of fluoro, and still had 4.5-5ft left. I guess I wasn't expecting the horse to start pulling drag.

Nicely done Fred, good luck with The Beast next time out there!

Thanks John. I'll be throwing that worm on my jigging rod, with a 20lb leader.

Great photo spread fredfish! Nice catch, and what a terrific story about that hawg! That one will leave you wondering until you do manage to bring it up for a closer inspection! Pretty cool about that diver too!

Thanks Yaker. When the drag started singing, I thought, "I wish I had a video running ", nobody will believe this.
I met the diver last year, and jokingly offered to hire him to retrieve a couple snagged lures. He was packed up and gone by the time I hauled out yesterday , so I couldn't ask him about the tree.

I would have asked him about the giant in the tree, Billy, but he was gone when I hauled out. I've been thinking about one of those Aquaview cameras for a while. There's a good reason to get one right there.

Got to the lake at 9:30, water 76°-78°, covered with the same pollen/needles/and pine nuts. Tried a Squarebill, and dropped a Salt Tube with no luck. Picked up the finesse rod, and never put it down. 1st bite, 1.25lb Largemouth, second bite 1.25lb Smallie. Both from the leeward side of the 4th island
(out of 7). Fished a couple of my usual spots and only caught a couple little 1pounders. I decided to try the old blowdowns in the creek where the ramp is. On the weekends theres to much boat traffic, but only 3 of us today. The first one near the mouth has a monster living there!!! 3rd cast, let the Swimming Dinger settle under the tree, starting swimming it back to the boat. 3/4 of the way back it stopped dead, so I buried the hook. I had to turn the boat away from the tree, and as I did that, the beast started ripping line off the reel, like it was tangled in the prop!.I started cupping the spool to attempt to keep the monster out of the tree, to no avail. She got into the tree and POP went the 8lb leader. It was a clean break about a foot above the knot. My guess is Bass, because Pike always shred the leader.
I tried the next tree, and caught a 1.5 pounder, and lost a bigger one. Tried the first tree again and found no one home. Went back to the 2nd tree and nailed the fish of the day, 3 pounds even. Tried both trees one more time and called it a night. This is the home of our State record Largemouth 12lb 14oz, caught in 1961.

Thanks Fly. I wish I got a second shot at the big one, but there's always next time.

Good pics Fred. Bet you’re heart started racing as much as the drag on your reel. I’ll be watching for a pic of the big one soon. Good luck the next time you get out there

Thanks Terry. It's about the farthest lake from my house, still in Connecticut. 1hr and 20minutes, mostly on the highway, and yesterday a $50 gas bill. I will get back up there eventually thought. I've got a score to settle with the bigg'un.
