Took my lunch break across the road from the shop today. First cast drifting a green corky and orange yarn. Hooked and landed a 13 pound buck chinook and he was even a legal keeper (fin clipped hatchery fish). Filleted, vacuum packed and back to work in 30 minutes. 👍

Right? And it doesn’t hurt to work about 80 feet from where the fish are running either. The boss said “if your late getting back you’d better be packing a fish”. I figured he was serious and I wasn’t even late getting back. Guys fishing all over the place down there that have been there all week without catching a single fish. They were not real thrilled watching me make one cast and land a decent fish right in front of em. Just luck. Right place right time. No bait or scent. Just a corky and some yarn. I had my steelhead rod in my rig with 12 pound braid all rigged up for steelhead and just gave it a wing out in the current. It hit the bottom twice and wham!!! Fish on. Everybody down there was like “WHAT!!!! SERIOUSLY DUDE!!!”. I just smiled and said “see you guys. I gotta get back to work. Anybody wanna buy a piece of yarn?” 😂🎣🎣

Thanks Cam. I’m gonna smoke it up and give it to my Mom. I got two so far but I don’t care for them a great deal. We’re having the biggest run in over 10 years and really high water. As soon as the water goes down a bit salmon “catching” is gonna get really good here for a few days. I’m headed back up to Cascade lake in the morning for more perch and a few Kamaloop if I’m lucky. The last two trips up there smelled pretty skunky. 😆😆

Thanks Billy. I only had 30 minutes for lunch. Lol. It was more of a joke than anything. I told my boss “I’m gonna run across the road and smack a king salmon”. He just laughed and said “yeah whatever”. When I came back with the fish he asked “who’d ya buy that from?”😂. I didn’t expect to catch one but I must have dropped my gear right in his face cuz he sure hammered it. Gave my little steelhead rod a bit of a work out and I didn’t have a net or anything. Wasn’t planning on catching anything🤷‍♂️

Thanks. I’d say in about a week or so they’ll probably shut it down. The fish should really be here about then and the guys will start hitting real close to the projected number they want. Every other rig is a cop down there right now but they didn’t check me so there’s one they won’t know about until the survey time rolls around. 👍

Thanks Rut. Not bad for a springer but fun to catch. He weighed right at 13 pounds undressed. Decent fish and still bright orange meat and firm.
