Structure is the go to. Shallow or deep depends on the water. Deep rocks? I love then in certain waters. Weed beds ? same.

I recall reading years ago that Bass are happiest in 72 degree water. I don’t remember where I read it. An agreeable temperature and a ready food supply would seem to be good indicators.

Cover, cover, and cover. Cattails, bull rushes, down timber, trees, docks, lily pads , submerged plants, weeds and any other structures or cover. Water depth can very with time of day and temperature. I like to see 6 to 8 feet of dark water and necessarily dirty but rather dark bottom. Looks dark down there.

Lily Pads or along shore in the shade. Early evening and early, and I mean early morning, before dawn.

Go to the river. A smallie behind every rock. Zoom fluke, no weight to maybe 1/2 a nail weight.

Over many years, in many lakes, ponds and streams across this nation, regardless of niceties like time of day, current weather, water temp, type of bait/lure, onshore or in a boat, braided v mono v fluorocarbon, spinning v baitcasting reel, 2 v 6 v 8 v any other line strength - I have ALWAYS found bragging size - and other - bass in one single location - under water. Enjoy figuring what works for you.
