Hello All
They treat our Lake with the Sonar & Diquat herbicides every year to manage the invasive weeds. But this year they also started early on April 27 for more effective weed management.

Our concern is that this is during the pre-spawn and spawn windows with boosters in the post-spawn period.

Does anyone have experience or data on the effects of such herbicides on spawning bass? The bite seems to be off this spring but i donโ€™t know if that could be due to the early herbicide treatments or not.

I work with the Lake Commission and would love to provide some guidance related to duch trestments & timing.

Thanks

Research. If something kills plants it could effect fish. Ask what the chemical or process is. Usually herbicides are nitrogen or salt derivative but hopefully by now with all the modern rocket science maybe there is a non poisonous way to eradicate invasive plants

All I know is when the rich people at Deep Creek lake MD got they way n had the weeds killed around all the docks you couldn't buy a fish. Did it hurt them or not. They say it doesn't but then again truth seldom come from certain places. No cover no bait fish no bass. This opinion was shared by everyone I talked to that fished there. Keep track of it n let us know ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Thanks, Grizzly. I was afraid of that โ˜น๏ธ

Our bass fishing has certainly fallen off in the last 6 years since the weed treatment started & picked up.

I just sent a set of questions and request for supporting data to our Weed Management vendor, Solitude ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Depending what I hear back, I may be able to get the Conservation Commission involved too ๐Ÿคž

All inputs welcome,

Hello All br They treat our Lake with the Sonar &a... (show quote)

I do not know what the full effect is but I am surem that there is an effect. I think that herbicides and pesticides adversely affect fish activity.

You're welcome Red. Glad to help anytime if I can. I finally got to the super shallow end of a cove n got 2 dinks in a stump field. 125 mile drive isn't worth what I landed. Main lake is all but impossible to fish during summer months. Too much boat traffic jet skis tubers n water skiers.
