Lost net Largemouth found at Havasu

The lost net saga continues, took my wife yesterday up to Castle Rock in north Havasu and ran into 20 mph winds. We carried our 10' kayaks 400 yds to launch and got blown around so headed up a river channel with steep rock walls. I tied up to some roots coming out of the rock, did some casting and went to change rods behind me.
Notice my new landing net I found floating last week was tangled by the wind with a lure on my other rod. As I'm turned around trying to untangle it, I heard a quick pop and looked around and didn't see anything floating. Got my mess handled and turn to find rod #1 missing. Yep went overboard in 10' of cloudy water and weeds so as we left I marked the spot with a colorful lure I hung on the root and will try to retrieve it in 10 days when I'm alone.
An ugly Stix with a Pflueger President reel and that new net became a lil unlucky until an hour later I used it to bring in a 2.48# LM caught on a 2.5 square bill.
Since all great golfers have a good ball retriever, I have one with a 12" rake attachment so that might do the trick if I can catch the reel. Extends about 15' and certainly has paid for itself over the years! Photos to follow....ha!

Many times a full sized cork handle will float the rod and reel. I was on a boat with several others Salmon Fishing for Spring Chinook on the Willamette River. A fish bit one of the rods on the stern and it went overboard. I said to the guy "are you going to set the hook and get your rod"? Anther guy reached in the water as the cork handle floated back up. I have had trout do the same thing and as long as there is plenty of cork ( not like the modern rods with the rod exposed between two pads ). I reached in the water more than once when the fish quit tugging as hard because the cork floated the butt of the rod to surface.

Good to know Jeremy, most of my other rods are cork but an Ugly Stix is black foam. I may give my mask and snorkel a try also but it can certainly be replaced.

Nice Bass anyway Langer. They sell floats that mount on your rod, or you can make one with pipe insulation. Most yakers put a lanyard on other stuff like nets. Good luck finding your rod and reel. Thanks for the pictures.

Probably should be careful sir. I grew up going to Havasu. Lots of great memories including lovely ladies showing plenty up in the coves. We did all the High School Celebrations there. Lots of buddies and family had Four Winns new boats back in mid 80's. Fun fun fun. Still have many friends that have places there and go there. I haven't been there since about. 1990. Have safe fun. I hope you find it. Have you seen the apple devices and other that send you a GPS location? There is some that are waterproof too. Spendy but no question on location then.

Same thing happened to my son last year. I put on a super heavy lure and after a half hour or so was able to hook his line and pull it in. He had to restring but got everything else back including his lure

Hey Slim, I didn't want to mention the situation to my wife as she was tied upriver so I will quietly give the rescue a try in another 10 days.

I hear you Langer. She would be like mine and give you a bunch of grief. Some things are better left unsaid

I have found a few of my lost fishing rods using a metal fish stringer with all the hangers opened on a small nylon rope and a weight to get down then just drag it slow on bottom

Not much room in those 'yaks'. I will pass, I really like the idea of 'stretching out my legs' while fishing. LOL I have caught several nice fishing rigs, using a plastic worm. No telling how many are lost per yr. Great pictures, hope you luck on finding lost items.

Great idea Fishingnsc, I'll definitely give that a try along with my golf ball rake. Golfing buddies listened to my story today and questioned if I should blow $160 in gas to head to AZ next week to get that $125 rig! Ha....but hey I want it back!
