I got my moniker fast_randy, from taking my work friends fishing for wipers at Willard Bay many years ago. I used to troll lippless rattle traps 5 mph, and they started calling me fast randy.
I have fished it a couple times this spring. It is a great fishing lake. The variety of fish there is amazing. Channel cats, wipers, walley, sm. Mouth bass, perch and crappie. We even got a brown trout last week.
We are targeting the walleye mostly but you never know what you will catch. We are using worm rigs and flicker shad crank baits. Trolling between 1.8 mph and 2.2.

I trolled as slow as my old 50 Johnson could stand. 6/7, who knows. Boy's at the ramp said you're going way to fast. I said, How'd you do? They ain't biting, nothing. Hold up my 9 and 12 lb limit. I'll try to slow down. You can't go too fast for these fish. J5 rebel w/trailer. Bomber long A with trailer. 12' naked. Add weight if you must.
That's what they say when we troll the Petaluma River, then we hook them up and they're jaws dropped. I remember hearing someone saying we were trolling too fast as we has a double hook up....lol

Yup, trolling motor can't keep up with a big river anyway. Found it interesting we caught trout in our mountain lake just the same. That big old Johnson would only idle down some, temperamental. Tossed a bucket out for a drag. Pain in the butt managing.Quit that, caught fish anyway. Any kid tried to catch a fish by hand will tell you they're greased lightning. Why we worried trolling slow. I understand, nosing around cover, spot casting. Holding position. Stalking. Why we call them trolling motors? Yup, stalking motors.
