Gee-whiz now we need 5G

have anyone else been having problems with their cell phone not working? Well my trusty Galaxy J7 that I have had for the last many years all of a sudden stopped getting calls unless I was connected to the wi-fi, well as it turns out our area has switched to 5g which means my phone which connects using 3g no longer works meaning I needed to get a new phone. I didn't want to spend good money that could be spent on important fishing stuff so instead of getting one of those fancy Iphone 13 pro max like my wife has I saved $1000 and got a Galaxy A13 from costco with the new camera that will take better pictures of the fish I catch along with everything else I would need and a lot I won't need. I know all the young techy people on this site most likely already knew about the big 5G change over but for any of those out there that don't really follow this stuff just wanted to give a heads up if your cell phone quits working check to see if it is 5g capable if not you might have to pick up a new phone unless you still happen to have a land line with a rotary phone which those younguns might not even know how to use.

DC, I still had and used an iPhone 3 up until February when they shut off the 3G network. My carrier, ATT sent me an iPhone XR at no charge. I’m surprised yours didn’t.

I have Verizon as a carrier. Haven’t had any issues with them but we bought insurance with our last phones. Won’t do that again. I ran over my phone a week ago and called Verizon for some help. Since I have insurance it’s no longer a Verizon issue. They directed me to Asurion the insurance provider. First of all you will NEVER be connected with a real person. When you call their number you are directed to their website, phone claim.com, and it don’t work. The address we’ve used since we bought the insurance is no longer valid so I can’t continue with the, online, claim. When I click the help button it gives me 4 options and none of them are options I can use. I can’t talk to a person. One refers me to the toll free number which then refers me back to the website. There’s no way to contact anyone to let them know I’ve changed NOTHING with my policy account or my phone. I’m just going to contact Verizon and buy a new phone if I decide I need one and never buy insurance on a phone again. They’ve collected $184.00 from me since the purchase of the insurance and can’t contact them for a fix. Verizon told me they’d probably do that🤬
