First off, they are called by the media name, not what they are. Semi auto rifles are not assault rifles, its people that assault. Please do not test me. I was a firearm instructor, and some states require that you took the class, before a firearm purchase. I also sold firearms, and my team never sold one without asking questions to find out their mental health. I tend to look at both sides, and the media will bury all good things that come from having a firearm, for wh**ever reason. Did you know that it was our current president that wrote the bill, to keep firearms out of schools. Where did that go? So the old story goes that if we take the firearms from all the innocent people are the crime will go away. I would bet that not one criminal will bring in the firearm he stole, and plan on selling it to another criminal, when and if that happens.Think, you can make all the excuses you want, but why not read what ladies have said about having a handgun. Maybe pick up some magazines that tell what happened, and what could have happened, had the victim to be did not have a firearm. One guy wrote a book on why someone should not have a firearm. He came home to see his wife and daughter both raped and beaten. It happened again, so he wrote another book, why you should have a firearm. He learned to shoot, and the family enjoyed that time at the range. He later told of the meeting with the criminals, after shooting one of them, the others attacked him, none of them had firearms, only knives and a crowbar. Even after he showed his firearm, used it, they still attacked, they lost their lives. BTW......yes toilet drownings, look it up

This will be unpopular on this site and may get me blacklisted. I don't hunt but do not have a problem with people that hunt and eat what they k**l. I like meat just don't have the heart to shoot em. I fish, catch and eat, and release the rest. Back to the guns. Most gun owners will say it's for self defense. But rarely do you hear a self defense shooting. You hear about family members being accidentally shot. And you here a heck of a lot more mass shootings. Guns don't k**l people, people k**l people? If that guy today didn't have a gun 18 people would still be alive.

64.... There are a huge number of self defense shootings. The NRA magazine has a monthly page titled Armed Citizen. A good read that reports on people defending themselves and others with firearms. Plenty of justified shootings documented there. Personally, I like to read about some Grandma taking out a violent minded trespasser. So glad she could defend herself.

We really need education, on 'why you should have a firearm'. Maybe you remember, maybe not, but when I was very young, I was taught how to hold a firearm, load it, and shoot it. Then even learned how to take apart and clean it. That was taught in schools!! Most of the shootings is young people, and most live at home. Nothing to do with us ol' farts.

I don't quite understand your statement, so if you lost a child in this shooting you would go out and k**l the shooter's parents. Maybe I read something wrong.

This reinforces my commitment for my concealed carry. I also have a couple others strategically located around the house. The Armed Citizen states that studies indicate that firearms are used more that 2 million times a year for personal protection and the presence of a firearm - though not fired - often prevents crime in a lot of cases. I pray that the non-carriers will never need the protection and not have it. It might only take once to find out if the decision not to carry was a mistake. I respect your right to not carry - please respect my right to carry.

Hunt... It seems to me that you feel the same way as many of us. Thank you for going out on a limb and articulating your position. If these rights to protect ourselves are taken away, we will be helpless when confronted by a violent bad guy. The anti's refuse to understand how that would impact THEM, as well as us.
Perhaps they believe the criminal element will begin to comply with the law and all will be OK. Yeah, good chance of that.

H T F ..... That's an example of the horror perpetrated by the criminal element, and what it takes for Snowflakes to see the light. Too bad they were so delusional in the first place. Would you mind updating this and revealing this author's name, it would be interesting to read and compare these two books. And I can't help but wonder what the response will be when I request my local library to get them for me. They're big on other types if controversial stuff, so I wonder how this will be handled. Nice to be a retiree and have time to bust some chops.

And yes I have had to show my weapon (did not fire) but only on one occasion so far. When he saw I was not fooling he stopped and after a minute (or what seemed like an hour) he turned and walked away.

When you have the corrupt NRA paying off the corrupt politicians, you’ll never have meaningful gun legislation. They’re lining the politicians pockets with money to do nothing…

64, just thought I'd drop ya another note : nobody I know of on this site would approve of blacklisting anyone else for their opinion, even if they could. That would the the job, and responsibility of Admin.
Not really my place to tell ya what to do, but you might want to consider the contents of some of the responses coming in. Nobody's forcing their beliefs on anyone else.

There’s no such thing as an assault rifle. It’s a moniker given to the rifles, built on the AR platform, by the gun control nuts on the left and their lackey’s in the media. AR stands for Armalite, the manufacturer. I own one and love it. I’m pretty proficient with it and keep it for safety and because I can. I was taught how to use and handle weapons at a young age and respect them. The same clowns calling for gun control are the same ones that are calling for unfettered a******n. I guess it’s okay to murder the unborn.

While this is definitely a hot topic, what one has to remember is that without the 2nd amendment, there is a good possibility we would not have this forum to air our views, The 2nd amendment is the protection for the Constitution, and the rest of the Amendments such as the 1st.. Another point that you might consider is that the weapons the 2nd Amendment guarantees at the time it was written were the same weapons carried by militaries of the time... Now I understand that walking down the street with an assault weapon (a true assault weapon is already illegal for most common citizens to own without a FFL) could cause civil unrest, and therefore I offer much more support for concealed carry. But, while it is my opinion and my opinion only, I believe the 2nd Amendment actually guarantees the right of the people to own the same weapons as the standing armies of the world in any given time in history or the present... I have heard the argument that the Founders didn't for see the advanced weapons of today and therefore would never have passed the 2nd, but take in consideration that the Founders were educated and intelligent men who would never expect the citizens of our great nation to fight against a government bent on tyranny with outdated weaponry. As far as the mass shootings in this country, I have nothing but the utmost sympathy for all affected, the loved ones lost, the survivors who have to deal with both physical and mental scars, and the family and friends affected by the this horrendous act. It is my belief that we will not get past this terrible issue without looking at the root cause whether it be in mental health, education, or any other way of stopping the de-sensitivity to violence, whether it be with a gun or say a vehicle. Before I get off my soap box I must also say, if you don't think a government would wh**ever it could to silence unwanted criticism, just look to Russia and the lengths they are going to keep their people in the dark about their current war.....
