I see quite a few posts on Carp I’ve caught them by accident in the past but I’m wondering do most individuals who purposely fish for Carp do it for the action and fight or to eat 🤔🤔 if it is for consumption how do they taste and how to per pair

As with any game or fish, the size and preparation are key. Generally the smaller size the better. Species with numerous bones can be troublesome but there’s ways to deal with them also. Below are some recipes for the Asian carp. We better start eating them as they are making their way to the Great Lakes. They’ve even been found in our brackish waters. That’s really bad news. They are vegetarian but have many bones and are pretty tasty. These recipes may work for the other types of carp across the country.

once again I will share my grandpa Fair's recipe for carp.

Nail the carp to an appropriate sized hickory plank.
Gut it and stuff it with onions, celery and stale bread. Moisten with some good wine.
Sew the belly up.
Hang it in the outhouse for at least a week. Ten days if you can stand it.
Put it in a good hot oven for about an hour and a half.
Finish the wine.
Throw away the carp and eat the plank.

That’s still funny. The old noggin is still functioning. What did the car dealer charge you for the concrete repairs?😁

Well Spirit, that was my belief too but there must be some people who have the preparation figured out. Fourchon is right. They seem to be moving everywhere.

Hi Tong. I tried it one time. A smaller one on the grill. If you don't mind picking bones the meat was pretty good. A misconception they are strictly mud suckers. One place I fished was below a small dam. Sit under a big tree n watch them pick up my bait. Stoney bottom n very clear. They will test your patience. Pick it up start moving n drop it. Repeat multiple times. You'll know when to set the hook. When the drag starts talking. 👍👍

Tong, when in Rome, do as the Roman's. When we moved to NE, carp seemed to br fish of choice. But the prep was always the same and wasn't tasty or healthy for weekly meals. There, it was scaled and gutted, deep slits along both sides, cut into 3-4 inch lengths, breading of choice stuffed into the cuts and deep fried in very hot oil.
We didn't each much, until we tried it smoked. That was sooo good! But the brine or rub, whichever you do, makes it or breaks it. The fish is available easily enough that some experiments may be needed to appease your appetite. Mast are big enough to try several recipes using just one fish. Prepare in advance!
Another good method is pressure canning. We found a recipe that mimics canned salmon to the point of not being able to tell a difference. Scale and gut the fish. Remove all fins ( your choice of how). Cube fish into 1 inch pieces and stuff into PINT jars. Add one and only one tbls of hintz catsup. Pressure can for 90 minutes. Let cool and enjoy!
We've cooked it using canned salmon recipes and none the wiser.

All that being said, walleye and crappie are my faves. Tite lines

They say : you are what you eat. The same is true of carp. In Europe, where carp are raised in spring fed ponds and fed corn, they are good eating, apparently. Carp caught from a polluted water body will taste like a “sponge used to clean a toilet”.

Historically Carp were promoted as a food and game fish. In the late 19th century they were transported across the country by rail. Whenever they crossed a bridge the train would stop and carp would be scooped out of the tank car and tossed into the river. ( I wish I could remember the citation for this). Anyway, this should serve as a cautionary tale about the danger of releasing an exotic species into a new environment. Mankind can learn from our mistakes, but we don’t.
