After years of very low water, fishing season has opened with extremely high water on Lake of the woods. Days of heavy rains have led to very high water level rise on the lake. The first photo below shows the current situation at Red Wing Lodge, with the gas dock under water.

The second photo is an aerial from a normal year which shows the gas dock on the left.

Nowadays, it seems as though everything comes in extremes.

Yeah I'd say you got some water Frank. Could be worse, could be California.

I'll take the rain anytime. I don't care how much. It is way better than the alternative!

My local lake is over 30 ft above normal, & it's raining out. I bent over & dropped my glasses into the lake off the dock at Red Wing lodge a few years ago. I had a tough time tying on hooks & lures the rest of the week. Yes, I jumped into the water which was about 8 ft deep but could not find my glasses. We caught a lot of fish that week. We stayed in the cabins under the trees. The blood sucking mosquitoes were terrible there. all in all, a great trip & a really nice lodge. This rain sucks.

Glad you had a good time there. I have been going there at least two or three times a year for more than 30 years. The lodge owner, Mike, is now a really good friend of mine. His place is not a five star hotel, but he has the very best docks and everything works at his place (compared to other places I have been).

I am really addicted to fishing in Canada and have fished 26 lakes (at least) in Manitoba and Ontario. Besides going to Lake of the Woods, until the past few years, I always tried to sneak in a new lake.

The fishing, in general, is really better than here in MN, and the wilderness experience is priceless! That's what I really love.

Yikes! That is definitely a lot of extra water to be dealing with! I hope that the fishing is as good as always for you. I know what you mean about fishing in Canada...it can really spoil you with great catches and plenty of action!
