Ellen and I had to put down our beloved, 13 1/2 year old German Shorthaired Pointer (Sam) yesterday. I knew the day was coming and had put it off for a while, but I couldn’t let her suffer anymore. She was my companion and my “Head of Security”. She made me (as well as my kids and buddies) a better hunter, but more importantly…a better person. She will be missed!

Poised and ready for action in her usual spot next to me in the Home Office as the Head of Security along with her backups Froggy and Fox

So sorry for your loss OJD. I know all too well about havin to put an old friend down.
It truly is losing a member of the family.
The pain of them not being there any longer is difficult. In time, it eases up as I'm sure you know.
I will keep you and your family in my prayers for strength and comfort during this difficult time. 😞🙏

My condolences to you and your family John. She was a member of your family, and you all were members of her pack.
It's hard to see them go, but her suffering is over. R.I.P. Sam.

Thanks everyone,
It hurts to know she is gone, but it was almost as painful to watch her getting old and the declining health. We took her Up North last week for the last time and it was painfully obvious it was time. She is in a better place and she knew she was loved by everyone who met her.
We will meet again someday!
