Felt this deserved it’s own day on the sun
Anyone her run jet skis?
I never have.
Looks fun I guess.
Water and fast are usually cool fun
Is there something inherent to operating these that necessitates ignoring every aspect of respect and courtesy ?
I’m having trouble getting my head around this.
Seems every jet skier I see isn’t following any kind of ethical behavior.
By ethical behavior. I mean seeing an angler fishing a bank or some cover. Then operation the machine between the angler and said bank or cover.
Or running way too close astearn.
Or buzzing in front of another boat while he is under way.
Or having 10000 surface acres available and feeling it necessary to run a course around a stationary craft , thus disrupting everything the occupant of the stationary boat is trying to accomplish.

I have been on a few…and they can be fun, once. Just not my thing. If I am going to be on the water, it will be to fish from the shore, on a boat, or take in the beauty in a canoe, kayak or on a pontoon.
As for the buttheads who harass the fishermen, kayakers or canoers on them, they can’t be fined enough (in my opinion).

Just can't fix stupid, the guys running between my boat and the bank better watch close for a crank bait, I have been known to sling it at those times. I really got nothing against them as long as they stay out on the main lake but seems these days they gotta run up into every creek arm where the fishermen are. Just a little common sense should be used while operating all watercraft.

I've run a jet once or twice and they are a lot of fun. I've always wondered how deep my 65# powerpro would cut in if they got mixed up in it while I'm surf fishing. I know my rod could take the shock, and my sand spikes isn't going to outlets out. Just imagine that line sliding across your throat at 30MPH.

Yea and after the line does it’s job slicing your throat , then the fun begins while your momentum tightens the line and you get impaled by like 6 hooks and you get snatched off the jet ski.
Kill switch on these things?

I try to be respectful of all others on the water.
Don’t get me wrong.
I’ve drifted too close to another rig while retrying. Thought I was set up right but wind and current proved me wrong.
But I’m always apologetic and immediately remedy the situation.

I’m Especially cautious when skiers are around.
They fall , and seeing a head bobbing ahead of you while at speed is not easy.
That has always worried me.
Now that I can do 65mph really has me worried.
I rarely do 65 mph. It’s increasingly hazardous , and I’m rarely in a big hurry to get there .

Those thingamajigs can see when I'm running jugs on the lake and river's when I dealing with 5 giant hooks with 3 to 5 tugging fat catfish and they zip right passed my bobbing boat, hanging over, trying to live well 20lb fish, I've been hooked in the hands, legs, stomach and clothing, while taking on water. I had enough and called my buddy game warden and warned them stay away certain yards and off fishing jugs. I don't mind jet skiers having fun but they get careless, a few manage to get a hook falling off over the juglines. They're like a motorcycle on water, I respect their right to enjoy the water, just give the fishermen the same courtesy.

Keep it between 20 and 25. That gives you time to respond if a log shows up in bumpy water and still gets you there. A few minutes does not matter unless you are in a tournament. Many tournament guys seem to have learned their same respect from the same school as jet ski operators. Note: I said many, not all. Legal does not mean right,
Jet skies are a blast, but like bikers, it is only the jerks you notice, because they are being jerks.

they always seem to go out of their way to blast by people fishing in boats. Just a waste of money and gas as far as i am concerned.

I have had them circle me while in my fishing Kayak a number of times. I don't think too many of them are really experienced on the water, and their thrill-seeking threatens others out there. There is certainly a lack of understanding about their weight and speed, which can do great harm in the case of any sort of collision.

On the other hand, I have also seen a couple of guys using their jet-ski to fish off from - fully rigged with gear - even more than my fishing kayak. These guys seem to "get it" and are much safer and considerate.
