Sister always calls with bad news.
Today was no exception
After telling me about moms second of four Dr visits this week , I had to tell her to wait so I could do a shot of burbon.
Long story short. Congestive heart failure. Dope her up , make her comfortable and wait.
Man this sucks.
And after Jun 1 I working out of state 100% and out of country TBD. I’m sure a big %
Can’t be there.
I’m making a road trip one day next week. Takin brother , sister and Mom to our favorite pizza place.
I’m getting her , ( splitting it, cause it’s huge) her favorite Antipasto salad with red dressing we have enjoyed for over 40 years. And a darned good Fred’s pizza from my youth.
Please wish me luck and pray.

It's gonna suck and it's gonna hurt, Ben. I'm praying for all of you. I'm sure sorry to hear this.
I lost my Mom to kidney failure a few years ago. She had some dementia and it was gradually getting worse. At least she still knew us and remembered things from years ago. When she finally died, it didn't hurt as much as I'd expected. We'd lost her a little bit at a time to the dementia, so the hurt was spread out over several years. Even so, it hurts. Like you, I was on the road and gone a lot. By God's grace, I was able to say goodbye and to be there when she died. I sure hope that happens for you too. If you aren't there when she 'crosses the river', you'll feel bad about it for a long time.

Ben, My heart goes out to you and your family. Spend as much time as you can together with Mom and your siblings, and recall and embrace all the things that made you all happy with your lives together.
Don't focus too much on what it will be like without her. Instead, celebrate all that you have shared and how it enriched the time you have shared. This will not be easy, but for all concerned, it's the best way to proceed. A mother is a precious jewel to her family, who makes incredible sacrifices for as long as she can. Soon, she will no longer be able to continue with this , but now, take full advantage of the time available and show her, with your love and appreciation, that her efforts will never be forgotten.
That could make her much happier with the prospect of going onward to her final reward.😔

Truth be told. Don’t have a lot of happy memories with my mom.
I was too busy getting my ass beat by my step dad to develop much of a relationship. Yea , not cool . Not even a little bit cool .
But she is my mother and I will respect and comfort her till the end.

I remember one time mom was on a bicycle for some reason.
She came up to get me and my brother cause someone decided we deserved something to eat
Riding down the hill , me and brother runnin to keep up.
My brother stuck a stick he was playing with thru the spokes of the front wheel.
Mom Butthole over teakettle did a face plant .
Only time I remember me showing any compassion at all for her.
She was jacked up pretty good.
I took off my t shirt and put it on her lips.

Life has made me hard. Very hard.
I wouldn’t say cruel. I’ve never been cruel. I have been precise and technically expert in all my endeavors.
I had a tough upbringing . And our government taught me to kill hundreds of millions by means of various nuclear weapons platforms and at distance and close quarters and straight up Mano a Mano sticking a tactical knife in a head.
But at the same time. I love those who I love. I’m extremely generous and genuinely care about every “ common “ man I deal with daily.
Corporations. I’m assigned a job.
Kill a factory for example. My boss lays out the task and I tell him how I’m gonna do it and report how it went when I’m done.
Technical precision.
I drop the F bomb a lot and I generally cuss like a sailor.
Drink hard. Sometimes real hard
But at the same time all 7 of my grand kids think their papaw is the bomb !!
And my wife. Oh my wife.
Best friend on the planet!!
Didn’t know us you’d swear to god these two hate each other.
I say crap like “ don’t make me come over there. I’ll hit you with so many rights you will beg for a left”
Truth be told. I’d never do anything to hurt her feelings much less her person.
I’m a complex guy.
Cold , ruthless . In profession

Me and wife had a rare disagreement last night.
She just wanted an hour of my time. Just an hour and I couldn’t give it.
I gave her an hour tonite. Actually set a timer on Alexa to make it official.
Man I wanted to update my calendar with a meeting and read a contract for the third time to make sure I didn’t miss anything.

Sorry to learn this Ben, do what you can to be there as much as you can, especially when it is time. I got the call at work that mine had passed. The last time I saw her was at my best friend’s Father’s funeral exactly one week earlier. She had been ill, but never complained…and looked great. It was 29 years ago and I regret not being there, but I was working my ass off and had a 4 month old at the time.
