Figured how to hike below the dam. Would have been there sooner if I only knew.

One of those places you hear people talk about. But you never find out where it is. Maps are made with “x” marks the spot. Ivey has a spot like this. Sunday I found the spot. I always figured it was there, but as I looked at the rough terrain I didn’t think it was worth the effort. Wrong! I thought I would need a collapsible pole to make it through. Wrong! St. Croix in one hand and leatherman tool in the other. All the tackle that fits in pockets or attached to my hat and off I went.
Had to cut my way through the brambles, barbwire type vines, some branches, and chase some snakes of rocks that were sunning on the only way to where I was trying to get to.
It is just 100 yards from my house, but took 30 minutes to get there. I am sure no one has been on these rocks for years.
Four hours. 50 fish. Five fish cut 20lb power pro on sharp rocks. Two large smallmouth were dropped trying to get a picture. Phone survived.
The bluegill x’d out not part of the bounty. Last bass at the bottom was from a climb down the creek further.
White swimbait, black spinner, chartreuse spinner, were popular. Only a small selection and one pole. Hike was too rough to bring the whole store. Had a whopper popper ripped off my hat somewhere. Maybe I’ll find it someday. For now I’m off to BP to replace some inventory.
One for the books. Looking forward to going again soon.

This one was hanging out in the still water. Current made fishing the creek difficult. There aren’t any breaks to get to water.
When it rains for a couple days there is ten more feet of water where I am standing.
Found a deer path that helped a little.
Snake didn’t care about me. I used my rod to move it along.

Thanks, lots of water going over and I opened the valve in October. So the creek which normally has an interrupted and minor flow except in heavy rain, has had plenty of water. The creek flows into a river that flows into a large, 8400 acre, Lake Wappapello. Eventually, makes it into the Mississippi River around Memphis. The fish found me.
