I have an idea.
Let's throw a few Drones in the Mix and say we are training the Ukrainians to fly them, (wink, wink).
Hell, let's just threaten to do it.

For your viewing pleasure the upgraded A10 Warthog.

The Air Force has been trying to retire the A-10 for years now. Our government, in a rare and beneficial bipartisan fashion, is forcing them to keep it operational. No other fixed wing aircraft comes close to its close in support of ground troops. It’s one bad mo-fro.

When my Brother and I were out in the Arizona Desert north of Tucson, they would fly over by sometimes.
You could not hear them until they went by. And that was at fairly low levels. LOL Not more than 100 feet overhead. Neat!

Retirement of the A-10 would have been a big mistake from the perspective of a guy on the ground. The Army had significant talks with the Air Force about how mission capabilities were enhanced with the support of the A-10.
That aircraft is a true friend of a guy on the ground. I guarantee that.

The Gatling Gun on those A-10’s is a wicked weapon! My friend that flew one of them in the ‘70’s has a display on his wall with memorabilia including a shell used in one of those guns; it’s HUGE!!

In the first gulf war, the A-10 was just about the star of the show! This, just shortly after someone wanted to decommission and get rid of them!

The Air Force has always been hell-bent on the idea of being able to use a plane for ANY kind of mission. I was a crew chief on F-104 starfighters, and we took them to Vietnam and used them as bombers! The A-10 doesn't carry tons of bombs, it doesn't fly hypersonic, it can't fly at 80,000 feet and there are lots of other things it can't do. It was built to k**l tanks and offer ground support, and does its job darn well.

My all time favorite. Story I heard.
Engines on prototypes were beefed up to match the gatling gun. At low speed the gun could stall the hog.
