This little guy struck the bay window

This male towhee flew into the window just a short while ago. I heard the noise while in the garage and went out to investigate. We often have birds fly into that window and I always put them into a box by the radiator for an hour or so. Have about an 80% success rate. This little guy was in that 80%. Kinda weird that I hunt pheasants, doves, woodcock, geese and ducks and have no remorse when taking them. Guess that may be because we utilize their protein. Anyone else have those same sentiments?

At the school I work at we always have the M.U door open, we have had a number of birds fly in the M.U, I usually open all the doors and turn off the lights and they go towards the sun light and find there way back out side, my first year at the school I’m at now when it first happened one of the teachers wanted to shut down the M.U and call animal control, I said before we do all that give me a few mins, that when I opened all the doors and shut of the lights, the bird flew out in like 2 mins. So now that’s the protocol when it happens! Good luck and be safe

I do bk. I love to turkey hunt but hate to see a robin or a wren or other bird laying on the road. I like to watch the hummingbirds and the cardinals at the feeders. Guess I’m just an old softie

Yes Sir, I rescue what I can. My folks always had a large mirror opposite the picture window on the front of the house. Lots of sparrows and a few brown creepers were drawn into that window, presumably as they thought it was a tunnel? Better than 50% were saved over time.

Good for you Matt, need no animal control, just common sense. Have a good day buddy.

It’s all about purpose and order. As you said protein. I would never kill anything for no reason but have no problem with hunting or getting rid of the ground hogs that refuse to leave my plants and garden alone.

I grew up in nursery country and was raised to hate ground hogs. My wife will eradicate anything that messes with her garden.👍🏻🎣

Right! I shot one with my air gun from a distance (all that’s legal) Thought I finished him but he got up again. My wife screamed you gotta shoot him again point blank. I hesitated until she offered to do it herself and I later thought dam I’ve been sleeping next to her for forty years and she can do that?
I bought a 25 cal air gun for the next one and that worked fine from a distance.

I have many a story of snipping ground hogs. I got paid $10 a head from a couple local nurseries and my friends dads veal farm. They had nuisance permits so they where legal to kill all year with a 22. I made a good bit of extra cash that way. Things are tough as nails. Usually had to shoot them twice if it wasn’t a head shot. They would take a shot to the mid section and still be kicking.

I used to hunt rabbits and birds, can’t do it anymore. Still hunt deer and Elk, but I’ve let a few deer get by me the last couple of years. I do like watching my dogs chasing chipmunks, if they ever caught one I’d be shocked.

Yes Sir bk? I love Hunting & fishing & eating those that I target. I still feed the wildlife extra in the winter months and don’t just kill anything that I find hurt. We are the worlds best Conservationists, we love, take, and protect that that we Love!!!

J I use to seriously hunt ground hogs. Never hesitated to pull the trigger. They caused alot of damage to equipment. One day while trimming trees in a peach orchard one of the guys stepped in a hole n broke his hip. Here's the other part. If one was on the road I always tried to miss them. Just didn't seem right to run over them. Can't find a place to hunt them anymore. Most fields have houses too close. 👍

I could never run them down with my car. Not a humane way to kill them. My buddies dad that owned the veal farm, would drive off the road to hit them with his truck. Always thought he was an a$$ even as a kid!
