They closed my bar

They closed down my local watering hole.
Been going there for 22 years and it’s a 10 min walk from home. We walk the dog there some weekend afternoons before it gets busy.
Neighborhood place. A dive in all reality , but cheap beer and the drinks my wife likes.
First time I ever went there was after my bachelor party. We were so smashed they kicked us out before we even sat down !
A dear friend named Karen used to own this joint. She died of cancer and her son just didn’t have the heart to keep it running.
She was the one who kept butts in seats.
Well anyway. Place sat empty for a year.
A guy we know from another hangout bought it. Spent some money on it and reopened.
Cool. Older crowd. Our age mostly give or take. Everyone knows everyone. Someone always bringing in food. I’ve taken a load of fried crappie fillets , buns and frisches tarter sauce ( big hit)
Guy closed it down last week and consolidated to his other location.
Always a bad vibe there.
Here’s what I mean.
One night last week a young thug was sitting in my seat.
Mind you I was sitting with my wife and engaged in conversation with an African American woman sitting next to me having a good time. Laughing.
I said “ dude can I get my chair back” he said “ didn’t know it was your chair. “
I said “ usually when there is a drink , phone , and sunglasses there before you moved them. That means some one is sitting there. “
My new African American female friend concurred.
He said “ I’ll get up in a minute.
To which I replied “ how bout you get your a$$ up right f. Ing now
By this time I had 3 of the biggest dudes in the place standing behind me.
He didn’t get up!!

And last night a dude kicked his dog . Like right in front of us.
I didn’t say anything. Wife did in spectacular fashion.
He said “ it’s my dog “. Wife gave him an ear full.
If your dog isn’t well behaved enough to be in that environment, leave him at home. Not all dogs are good in crowds. Mind don’t stray 2 ft from my feet.

Like I said. Not a good vibe.

Bar talk Ben? I stay out of bars. Thirty-nine years ago I fell for a bartender. Course it worked out ok. Married her thirty-six years ago today. She just made us a fine meal, spicy Thai shrimp and noodles. Sorry 'bout your bar.

Well that stinks! Unfortunately, our latest “situation” is causing many small bars and restaurants to close down due to lack of help or the cost of doing business.

That’s why I stay away from bars. Nothing but drama and trouble in those places. I walk my dog down to the river and drink iced tea with my wife. Nobody steals my chair and I don’t have to get all rough and tough and beat somebody up over a a damn chair that ain’t even mine. My dog don’t have to deal with drunks and he’s way happier chasing sticks than sitting under my feet in a noisy bar. Let’s face it. Most people go to a bar for one simple reason. So they think they are tougher and smarter than they were before they got there right? That was all fine and cool when I was 22 years old (and I didn’t take my dog) but those are days long gone and easy, quiet, living makes much more sense to me now😉

My main reason for going to the bar occasionally is to see friends , socialize, trash talk sports , talk about fishing.
Invite folks to go fishing etc.
I can drink at home and often do.
It’s good for us to get out , see folk, have a couple beers, know when it’s time to leave, and go home to do whatever I got going on.

We know. It's fun. Gotta work on my jokes. '83 I walked into a floating river bar and met the best woman ever. Buddy grabbed my collar to keep me from walking right off the deck into the river. Anyway Mon. was our 36th anniverary. We quit drinking because the kids came quick. They're grown and very successful. I'll drink to that. I still stay out of bars, cause you know. Look what happened last time. Married the bartender.

Nothing wrong with a man's preferences,, I do take issue with 1's questioning of others here on Stage ,we are all grown men & women , and are allowed to do what we want,, I still think, hey Ben sorry about your watering hole, I'm totally with you my Friend,,
