I thought it would be interesting to see what others call their go to baits. For me top water bait would be a Whopper Plopper. For soft baits my go to baits would be a Strike King Rage Tall or a Berkley Pitboss. I also like Bladed Vibrating Jigs and Lipless Crank Baits and don’t forget a Jointed Jitterbug. Here’s a few pictures of some of my favorites for catching Largemouth Bass

Top water would be a toss up between a Jitterbug and a Hula Popper, been catching fish on those two since I was about 12yrs old. Square Bill crankbaits and chatterbaits about even. Soft baits, hands down are Stick worms. A Max Scent General rigged Wacky, or a Yum Dinger rigged Weightless TR , and second a unweighted Fluke type soft Jerk Bait. I also like Buzzbaits when conditions allow, and Ned Rigs on occasion.

Based on the responses, it appears we are talking bass. With that in mind, I would go with large home tied poppers on a fly rod, wacky rigged stick worms with and without weights, and floating 1.5" fat silver with black back Rebel. Deep fishing, I still go to a 6 or 8" Texas rig purple floating worm. Just an FYI: I have not given frogs, chatter baits and wopper ploppers a fair chance. This is the year

That’s for reaching out.
I fish mostly late night for Large Mouth Bass bank fishing. On weekends I’m usually kayak fishing on my Bonafide SS127. I do own a boat but it’s a Malibu VLX wakeboard boat but not the boat I would use fishing off of. Prosper is still relatively a small town so I wonder if I’ve seen your youngest son before driving around in his patrol car.
As far as your question goes on where I fish, I have many fishing holes I fish out of late night that are very good in producing good size largemouth bass. I also hit the four main lakes in my area. I really enjoy hitting reservoirs out in the country that nobody really fishes out of. I find it very peaceful and satisfying catching large largemouth bass out in gods country.

Curious about the last pic of the Whopper Plopper. I have not seen that version, where the spinning part is at the front, ahead of the hook. I have several, and they all have the spinning part as a TAIL at the back end (where tails usually are...lol). What brand is that black one, and does it work for you ? Thanks in advance.

Where I mainly fish it is very weedy so it’s mostly a Texas rigged rubber worm, although I bought some weed less hooks and a wacky tool over the winter so I’m going to try wacky worm as well as some weed less jigs with the bottom half of a bandito bug as a trailer.

I must have 12 different sizes and versions and my latest version shown is now my favorite one. It’s made by Goggan and there amazing on the top water

Googan Squad Revolver and you can find them at bait shops that sell Googan products or Amazon

Let me qualify that I don’t claim to be an expert bass angler by any means. Nevertheless here is some free fishing advice. Worth what you’re paying for it.

Right now in Central Florida ponds, Gary Yamamoto 5” worms work best for me. The favored colors seem to be the “watermelon magic” “pumpkin/ watermelon” colors, and some watermelon color with red sparkles (the label has worn off). I rig them through the middle, “wacky rig” style, on a 2/0 hook and chuck them out with no weight. Then I jig them in a little at a time. If a bass takes it I let them run a little before I set the hook. My only complaint is that they are fragile and after two or three strikes I have to rig up a new one. They cost about $9 for a pack of ten. I’ve tried cheaper imitations but they just don’t seem to work as well.

I was so happy when Arbogast introduced the jointed Jitterbug, made a great topwater even better adding the swimming action to the wobble. My favorite cuz I love a smash on the surface.

Same here. No description or name in the picture. What is that?
