Help us help you. You'll likely get more replies if you would narrow down the areas you are interested in, and what is your target species, and whether boat or shore.
I grew up in Kansas (Emporia and KC metro/Shawnee Mission, mostly), and the fishing can be quite different in other parts, like when we visited my uncle in Hill City or the other uncle in Pratt.
If you are in the southeast area, hit the strip pits near Parsons.
Good luck !

Hi Fix, my son lived in Leavenworth. He didn't fish though showed me the Missouri River. A beast in his area. Steep cut banks, fast and deep. No boats out. I don't blame them. Would be a constant battle for control. Looked like big catfish water to me. Lewis and Clark country.

Yeah, they don't call it the "Muddy Mo' " for nothing.
My ex-wife grew up across the river and down the road from Leavenworth, in Weston, Mo. As for "ragin' " at times....a few years before the Civil War, it would have been 'cross the river and THEN down the road TO LEAVENWORTH'..... the river used to be right next to Weston, and the town was far bigger than that little hamlet called 'Westport', that, once the river changed course, would become Kansas City.
Can't say that I recall much being caught out of that stretch but alligator gar, carp, or too-big-to be good eating yellow and blue catfish. In other words.... you didn't miss much of anything, fishing-wise.
The #1 thing I DON'T miss about fishing rivers back there, is the MUD ! I must say I am rather spoiled by having clear water and rocky or sandy shores and river bottoms (lakes, as well) here in Oregon, for the past 38 years, to fish, swim, and boat/raft in. Kinda was one of the inspirations to pick up roots and move my family, when I was 30yrs old.... that and mountains, and skiing, and whitewater kayaking, and hiking in the Redwoods and along the coast, a couple of hours from me. Like I said.... kinda spoiled.

Thank you. He said as much. He's Army, stationed there 3 years. Finishing 3 at Ft Shafter, Honolulu right now. Next, Ft Bragg NC. We're a little spoiled here ourselves. My wife and I have the beach West and mountains east. With a lot in between. A lot to see. A lot to do.

Well, good to know about the Army connection.... would've been a bit awkward to discuss, if he spent 3 years there with the "other" main biz Leavenworth is known for, huh ?...lol.
Was he just stationed there, or was he attending the General's College ? Know a couple of guys who attended and a fraternity brother's Dad taught there ('70's).
Some really cool, big old houses in that town, for sure.
Hawaii to NC, huh ? Good luck to him !

An MP as well as Cuba service ? Yeah, I forgot about that third OTHER facility (rough place, no doubt) that kinda 'combines' the other two, that are much more well known concerning Leavenworth.
Please let him know that we thank him for keeping us safe!
