Fishing for Flathead in Cibola

Hello, I’m relatively new to fishing for flathead. My closest spot is Cibola National Wildlife Refuge. I was out there yesterday evening and found a few promising spots along the river and some separate channels. Any recommendations for my line set up? Cheers!

I fish off my dock on Lake Oconee in Ga for cats. I don't use a rod and reel. I use the round Cuban hand reels with a 40 to 50 pound line and a heavy sinker. You can get them on ebay for very little. Take my metal outdoor table and turn it upside down and put the reels on the legs. When the fish hits the reel will rattle on the legs and wake you up when taking a nap. Best advise is use a tribble hook and put cut bait on each hook. If he gets one he will come back for another. Always reminds me of David and Goliath when casting it out. My best one was a 55 inch blue cat last year that was 55 inches long. 15 bags of filets for my old friends that can't get out anymore. Good luck.

Awesome! Thank you very much for the tips! I will give it a shot! Do you use any floats to lift the bait off the bottom or are you successful without that?

No. Catfish feed off the bottom using smell and whiskers to find food. The exception is channel cats that patrol up and down and will even hit a bass lure once in a while.

Cibola National Wildlife Refuge. I hit up the places along the bank that are near structures (i.e., bridges) and have bank access spots. If you have a kayak, they have Cibola Lake which I have heard is good for flatheads, bass, channel cats, perch.
