Took my brother yesterday for a couple of hours. He kept what he wanted, released the rest.

Leave some brood stock or this could be the last of your fish catching there. Fun now but spawning time.
Ol School cane pole and đŸ¦— can't beat it bet it was a great time
All the blue gill I have caught when they are schooled up in the spring, have bright orange/yellow bellies. Are these actually in spawn phase? Are they actually on a bed or just schooled up in a fishy spot. I have caught large numbers and size bluegill from the same spot from spring through fall, year after year. The water was too deep to see actual beds. This is a real question with no implied side motive regarding fishing beds.

Hey Mark. When you clean them do any of them have any eggs in them or do you think they have already spawned?
Either way I would think you were hurtin your fishery keepin that many during spawnin time.
As was posted before by another fisher on the stage, he caught a big gill off her bed and before he could even return her to the water other fish came onto her bed and ate all her eggs. When he finally got her released she went back to her nest and it was empty and she just swam away because nothing was left. Kinda sad.
I don't want people on here to think of me as "The pot callin the kettle black." Sometimes Brad and I will catch 50 or 60+ stripers in one day. However, out of all those we might keep a limit of 4 at the most.
I'm not tellin you you can't keep however many fish you want as long as it's within the limit. Just sayin I think you might be hurtin your fishery keepin that many big gills durin this time of year, that's all. You do as you see fit. Saw1.

Another nice mess of fish. Cane poles rule.

Nice catch
Unless it is a small body of water with heavy fishing pressure it is unlikely that the population of bluegill will be affected by fishing beds. Actually it is probably more common tofind over populated, stunted bream than the reverse.
