I recently moved from Iowa where I fished for cats, bass, walleye, northern, crappie etc. I'm close to Utah Lake and have been out twice this year at Lincoln Beach, up to Bird Island, and Provo State Park but haven't found any water over 8' deep. I know that the lake is a shallow fishery, but where is the deeper water? Trying to find the catfish.
Welcome to the site Catjerker. I'm in Idaho now but Utah Lake is still my favorite cat fishery. I was taught to catfish by Leroy Mortensen and his brother Glen. They have passed away but Leroy still to this day holds the state record for Channel Cat. And I usually don't fish in water over 5 feet deep. I love Lincoln Beach and Bird Island. How deep was the water in the launch channel going out of LB? When I fish Bird I get close to the Island in around 4 feet. And cast toward the Island. But I love to fish the weeds and brush on the South side of the lake in the spring. If there is enough water. Where I get them in 2 foot of water. I use mostly a #1 bait hook and red/white bobbers. I use fresh shrimp unless I get a carp or white bass to use. Most people say fresh white bass is best. But I would rather have fresh carp. I'm going to send you a PM. There is a weird white bass dye off happening there now. The year before last I got 64 cats in three trips down there.
