George N. Mitchell's Famous Quote

This was after the famous Watergate break-in, and discovery. The perps were all convicted as well as several of President Nixon’s top aids. It also cost President Nixon the presidency.

I had a very hazy, but essentially correct memory of the pithy and ironic quote made by the U.S. Attorney General, and close confidant of President Nixon during his presidency. While Mitchell was known as a strict “Law and Order” lawyer, he apparently didn’t think it applied to him. I have little doubt he knew that what they were doing would mean prison time if the acts were found out.

After the Watergate ‘break-in’ was disclosed, and all the ‘perps’ were tried and convicted. George Mitchell, the top legal advisor of the President was sentenced to 19 months in prison, at his arrival and entry to serve his time, a news reporter asked him a general question. Mitchell replied with a touch of mischievousness and even a little venom. “Well at least Martha won’t be there!” Now, in retrospect, that may not have been clearly understood. Was it that he wanted to be rid of her and glad to be separated from her, or possibly that she wasn’t indited as one of the perpetrators? Her role was never disclosed but likely to have been materially involved.

So, while there seems to be snakes of both parties, acting and doing anything and everything both illegal and unthinkable to win elections, it doesn’t seem to have changed.

When all the house of cards came crashing down, and there was nothing left for Nixon to do by resign in disgrace, his then Attorney General was Alexander Haig, who was there to make sure he would not be allowed to commit suicide, by removing all weapons or possible methods.

There were some who more enraged and felt he should have acted in the opposite manner; give the way his administration had brought some much embarrassment and shame because of their criminal acts. This was answered by the election of Jimmy Carter, as Democratic party candidate as the next president, defeating the Republican presidential candidate. Just Sayin...RJS

Neither of which are in the realm of politics. They may be the initial intentions but are soon quashed by the establishment.

I remember going to a convience store one morning to get coffee and when I saw the headlines on the Corpus Christi newspaper about Nixon (the sorry Bastard) was dead, I shouted hooray the bastard is dead and I’m not gonna drink coffee, I’m drinking beer and am gonna celebrate his f—king death. He was the perfect example of something that came out of a pigs ass, the worthless scum of the earth

Kandydisbar: If you are referring to me, RJS, I am only 87! My wife and I are both doing fine, living in a retirement center, and enjoying life. Thursday, we are going to College Station, here in Texas. I have been invited to put the senior ring on a young lady who said I was the reason she chose to go to Texas A. & M. and is now a senior!

I am religiously practicing my banjo lessons. I will put some stories on U tube as soon as I am proficient with the instrument. You struck a cord. I already have the video recording gear, the stories and the desire to do just what you suggested. I am still a few weeks away from making an attempt. Only had my second lesson and am involved with complicated string picking. Also, have not tackled the left hand's work on the frets, so you see there is a lot left for me to learn, but I am determined. Just Sayin....RJS

The watergate burglars woulda got away with it if it hadn't been for Forrest Gump.
I know fer sure that's the truth, 'cause I saw it in a movie!

....That's how clear-thinking some people are (WAY too many).
I've personally talked to several people who believe that Sarah Palin said "I can see Russia from my house". It was Tina Fey, darn it!
