Several years ago I was fishing by myself at a local lake up in the mountains. It was one of those perfect days. A light breeze, no one else around, I even managed to catch a fish now and then. As I sat in the tall grass I watched an eagle come swooping down from a treetop to pull a fish out of the water. Not too long after this spectacle a pair of great blue herons did their aerial mating dance in midair just above where I sat. It was one of those singular moments that becomes a part of you. As fishermen and women we have all been witnesses to amazing events that happen in nature. The point is that I became part of that day and place and it became part of me thanks to my God given gift of memory. The experience expanded my peace of mind and the memory of it has the same effect which enables me to be able to spread a little peace and sunshine wherever I am. I have not yet learned how to be a part of everything going on around me all the time but practice makes perfect. So not being the genius that Schweitzer was all I can say is that being a part of something greater than ourselves our lives become more significant when we allow ourselves to let the occurrences of life bring us to the understanding that our existence has purpose only when our presence helps shape what happens around us for the better. Take the time to notice, let myself absorb, reflect and react with positive effect. Now I need more coffee….😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫☕️☕️☕️
