I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what fishing opportunities there are that are relatively close to El Paso, Texas.
Two of my children moved down to help start a business and I occasionally visit them. I fly fish and gear fish up in Oregon. Hoping to fish with them down south.

Driller- I’m from Las Cruces, NM, 45 miles north of El Paso. I don’t fly fish so I can’t speak to that, but I frequent caballo lake about 40 miles further North up I-25. Elephant Butte, my state’s largest lake, is about 20 miles further. Warmwater species at both locations. For trout I would try lake Roberts by Silver City or grindstone near Ruidoso.
The only water close is the Rio Grande. Maybe someone local can help you. Further north in New Mexico there’s Elephant Butte lake which is on the Rio Grande. Even further north are some trout streams like the Pecos, Rio Grande, and a little bit of the San Juan. Sorry I couldn’t be much help. Maybe someone in that region that’s on the Stage can help you. Best of luck to you
Thanks Joelora,
I fish for Smallies on the South Umpqua.
They are high up there on my favorite fish.
I will research those lakes.
Thanks much.
Thanks Elrod,
Both of you are a big help. I will have my son and daughter drive up and get the lay of those for next time I am down.
