What is the advantage to a free spool spinning reel? I bought one one a close out deal and didn’t know it did not have an anti reverse. I’ve never used a free spool so am in the dark.

GW from what I've seen you back reel instead of using a drag. Not really sure though. I'll stick with what I know 👍👍

Tried looking it up. It says it lets the spool turn without tension. Guessing like a round reel where you flip the lever to engage drag. 😕

Kinda like learning the level wind? I spent many an hr in the backyard learning mine. Yes there were ratnests. Yes there were " wild casts, broke windows, and crossed power lines". It a process. I'm not a professional at casting it regarding accuracy, but I'm better then I on day one. Take it to fishing hole and practice, practice, practice! You'll get quicker and easier than you think!

The bail turns without tension too.

Is the front drag set at all…or just short of the spool falling off?

These don’t sound like what I had been shown about free spooling. In fast water cast into the current and let it drift back to the bottom of the eddy. Reel in on the slow side then back reel it back down the current, that’s usually when they hit. Supposed to like wounded bait. I use my Shimano 4xUL that way.

Thanks rip….I can’t realistically fish rivers anymore cuz of my back but that do make sense.

You got me curious so I looked it up.

https://fishreeler.com/shimano-sienna-review/

First question is it front or Rear Drag?

Didn't see anything about anti-reverse. if you don't see a knob on the spool for drag then it has to be a rear Drag, almost like a Bait Runner reel. Don't remember seeing any Open Face Spinning reel that didn't have an Anti Reverse on it. Even way back in the 60's, the Garcia Mitchel reel had a level to flip for Anti Reverse. But read the article and see if that helps any. ;)

Found it on UTube.
https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?fr=yfp-t-s&ei=UTF-8&p=shimano+sienna+2500hg+spinning+reel+operation#id=1&vid=b5eb9ae6079943ac2d558cd52119fbcf&action=click He shows where the Anti Reverse is. Sorry It took 2 tries.
