So, here's a little about me:
On here; Aquaequine (as in seahorse), street name is Glenn. Currently 70 years old physically (don't know how to act my age 'cause I've never been this age before).
Here we go;
Retired and want to get back on/in the water in the South East Idaho (Pocatello, and surrounding) area.

I've waded, floated/snorkled/SCUBA, float tubed and pontooned for fish in the past. Interested in relearning fly, bait, lures, etc. Just bought a sit in kayak to get away from flat tubes while still looking for a used (experienced, like me) sit on top fishing kayak. This doesn't mean I won't be bank/stream/river fishing, I want to be able to get to deeper water also.

I'd like to hear from locals about what where when and how is working so I can start enjoying my latent passion for the water again. I've looked at a few pages on FaceBlahBlah but all I find is Western and Northern Idaho fishing. That'll be great whenever I visit grandkids in the west side of the state, but I want to find where my quick getaways are.

Nuff said, the right guys/gals will know; the critics can go with the blow.

Good luck & good fishing.

I'm in Ohio and been kayak fishing for a couple years now. Like it enough that I sold my boats off.

The ability to pull up anywhere next to the water and put in is priceless.

Had a good friend, a shipmate, 40 years ago or so was from Pocotello. His wife Patty was a fiddler in a country band, damn good one too. Bob and Patty Pasley. You know any Pasley's?
And welcome to the Stage. Enjoy yourself and post some photos of your yak and your catches?

Welcome aboard. Friends fished the Snake below AF a couple weeks ago and couldn’t keep the fish off their hooks. Didn’t tell me what they were using but they were fly fishing.

Chesterfield is not real far from you. I have taken my family to Lava Hot Springs for many years. I have gone there for 35 years.

I was at Lava one year and went into gas station to get a fishing license… low and behold a guy was in there that had just camped and fished at Chesterfield for a week. He told me to get mini marshmallows ( redneck power bait ) and night crawlers. Rig up with lead on bottom ( similar to salt water rig or crappie rig ) add marshmallows and night crawlers to the hook. Marshmallows emit sweet flavor and melt all the while floating up off the bottom. I caught a limit everyday I went.

A year later I took the same bait and didn’t catch anything. The first year everyone was fishing off the dyke or dam.

The following year when no one was on the dam and never got a bite I found a fisherman at another location of the lake. He shared with me what color powerbait I should be using. The next day I drive back with the orange powerbait and caught a limit.

Most of the people I have ever met at Chesterfield were from Pocatello.

Can’t go wrong with the Snake River. Some kind of fish is ready to eat year round and it’s open that long too. Awesome state for the outdoorsman. Run up to Salmon if you wanna catch some fish. Good luck. 👍

Welcome to the site Glen. I'm close by in Blackfoot. From what I hear, ice still on at Chesterfield and Blackfoot Reservoir. But ice is off American Falls by you. I cought some good size Rainbow trolling Rappalas by the dam last year. Good small mouth also at AF. And of course Sturgeon below the dam. As soon as the ice is off, and the road opens from Blackfoot to Blackfoot Reservoir I will want to go up and bank fish. Three and four pound Rainbow up there. Rire reservoir should be free of ice soon. Some good Kokanee fishing there. Along with trout, Small Mouth and even Walleye. I'm your age and have been retired for 14 years now. I will send a PM and arrange a meeting.
