I will be fishing a river close to home (recommended by an old fisherman, I met at the Fishing Dept of the Big Box Store), he said there's fish in there - Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, Trout, Catfish, etc.)....and went to try it 3-days ago, with my usual set-up and got snagged three times!.....well, got zipped!.....I could see that it got structures all around (Rocks, Trees, Brush Piles, a big concrete Bridge nearby, River Bends, etc), also, noticed the fairly swift current, but lots of Big Shade Trees on the Bank!...(and saw an Old Fisherman leave with 2 Bass on his stringer for maybe 2-3 hours of fishing!) .....So, I would NEED HELP..!!!.. (and or any suggestions most welcome) from U Guys, how to rig my line properly!......Tnx, again!
I'm guessing, you're Fish'n for bass. And don't know what your usual set up is. Rubber worms work for bass most anytime and are usually fairly weedless. I prefer Carolina rig with a worm that floats. If your hook weights down the worm, pump some air into him by mouth with an air needle. Just a little bit of air makes alot of difference;
I was also thinking, if you like cats, catch you a bream. Stick a 3/0 circle hook in his back on a 12 inch leader with about 3oz.slip weight and sling him out there. Keep your line tight and patience is a virtue.

I would like to catch any specie of fish that's in there fairly swift river!....but my wish would be Crappie, Bass, Stripper, Trout, mainly!......my setup that got snagged 3X.... was a Crappie Jig, Red Head-1/4 oz, and a Malibu Body- Chartreuse....on a mono 6 lb leader-12 in,...a pencil slip bobber...stopper at 4 ft depth...and a 10 lb Braid Mainline....my MAIN WORRY really is the "swift current" n there are a lot of structures on the banks, but there are certainly some clear spots but not much....the SNAG is my nemesis, lost all 3 setups.... n get skunked!....the Floating Rig suggested by Riverfisher (Thanks so much.... n for the other Replies too.) would be a relief,.... but I would like more suggestions PLEASE! ...Thanks Guys!
I fish trout rivers with lots of snags . I returned to fishing about 5 years ago. Snags were common . So was catching squirrels . Solved the squirrel catching by investing in waders, using ultralight 5.5 rod and learning to side arm cast with a wrist flick. Waders let’s you into the stream. If I fish with a spinner, I use a single hook. Cast upstream and retrieve fast enough to keep the spinner off the bottom. If you do snag, slack the line , wade up stream 99% of the time once you are stream it will pop free. If I fish with mouse tails, nuggets or bait, use a modified drop shot . Three way swivel, floating line (mono) to the hook with the bait. The other line goes to a simple split shot or two. The split shot holds the rig to the bottom and the bait floats on the mono above bottom. If the split shots get snag a quick pull will slide them of the line and the rig comes free. If you do this please use tin (lead free shot) to protect birds and the environment .
