I am going to thermopilis wyo in mid may 2022 for the smiths last ever horse sale, I thought I might try fishing in the big horn but I know nothin about this river, I only have a spinning set up so I need some help what to use and where to fish for one day only!!! From Thermopolis go up the wind river canyon to either the upper or lower campgrounds. Use spinners or weighted wooly flys( not sure what they're actually called) one of the biggest rainbows I ever caught was at the upper wind river campground. I was using a large weighted fly tipped with a piece of nightcrawler. That fish was 30 inches long, I didn't weigh it but she had to be 8 to 10 lbs. I also had good luck fishing the shore at boysen res. Just up the road a little further.
Good luck to ya

1/4 oz inline spinners, Rooster tails, Panther Martin and the such. Cast-em up stream. Fish any “breaks” you see. Have fun, it’s a gas!

BTW, retrieve should be right at current speed. “Pop” that spinner at the start and move it just fast enough to keep that blade spinning!
Good luck.

With the new Fluorocarbon lines I would set up 6 or 8 pound mono backer and run about the same weight Fluor leader. I’d probably go with a short leader, couple three feet maybe. Fishing spinners is a reaction strike so those Trout don’t have a bunch of “look” at it time, follow? You’re going to be bouncing off stuff in the water so a little heavier test will save you tackle and tie time.
