It’s been said that the journey, longings and the passion is the destination. As I hit the throttle and began gliding across this beautiful liquid path, I realized once again it is the destination that truly matters and I’m here. Everything else is just added blessings.
Sorry I have no fish pic’s to share, but I promise it will be soon 😁 . Unlike my good friend to the south, Tim (aka Bric), who posted a nice bass from Montana waters (nicely done Tim on the drop shot !). All my good smaller lakes here in N/W Montana are not quite ice free (1-2 weeks out). However our monster lake here, Flathead, is wide open.
So today’s mission was to begin the learning curve on breaking in the new Garmin live scan that I installed yesterday. It was also an attempt to begin scouting around for signs of bass to see if anything has moved up. Air temp at launch was 34, but gradually warmed up to 55. However, water temp was only 36 and crystal clear.
Results: never saw a single sign of life using 3 separate sonars on board, searching gin clear water from 5-30 ft. There’s NO DOUBT this added piece of electronic will begin assisting in locating and catching fish. Still fine tuning some of the settings, and by no means ready to advance to the head of the class. But it was awesome watching numerous lures tossed out work there way back to the boat while watching it in live/real time. It’s just one more tool to add in the overall attempt to solve the puzzle.
Stay tune 😁😁😁

Great post, can’t wait to see all the fish you’ll be catching with that tool added.
The fish don’t stand a chance. If you added to your already effective fishing machine they will wish they were in a different body of water.

Nice shot JB, it looks like you weren't the only one out there? Good luck with the new gear, not that you need it. 36°water isn't much warmer than "Hard" water, LOL.
I’m absolutely staying tuned! Always look for and enjoy your posts. You’ll be catching soon!
Tight lines

Good to see you back out on the water JB. Like you said, the journey is the destination and sounds like you had a great one. That first trip of the year is always worth it. It is also fun to play with new electronics and tweak them until you are satisfied. Really looking forward to hooking up with you in July, and seeing the live scan in action.

Good luck JB, but I doubt you’ll need it when the water warms up a bit. 36 degrees is the temp I like my beer at, not fishing in!!😅

It’s a new Nitro Z18 with Merc 150 ProXS. MK trolling motor and running Garmin & Hummingbird electronics. It will run if necessary (62 mph), and just a perfect little sled up here… oh, she does like to catch fish too 😉
Do you fish Flathead lake for the big kokonee in the spring and summer months.

During those months last year, I spent my time at different smaller lakes targeting large & smallmouth. I would occasionally catch Kokanee’s by accident. But in the fall, I spent a lot of time fishing Flathead Lake and was actually catching a lot of 10-20 lb Lake Trout by accident while targeting bass in shallow water. Very fun to catch on light gear. Here’s a couple photos of those fish.
