I've heard the spots spawn later than largemouth, does any one have anything they can add to that

I would tend to disagree, Spots and smallmouth spawn at the same time here in N. Alabama....The two species spawning in close proximity is how you get the meanmouth (a hybrid of the two). And smallmouth seem to spawn earlier than than largemouth... with that being said, the smallies should be getting ready to start now, with the largemouths still a little behind....water temps are still a little cool for the largemouths....

On Lake Lanier I got some 3-4# spots this past week and they were definitely full of eggs. We were in 58* water all day. They were shallow mostly on secondary points. thanks

Anyone have anything on Lay Lake or Lake Mitchell? Going up there Monday and spend a couple of days. I hope they're pulling up to start bedding. We'll know Monday I guess.

Are mean mouths sterile?

Bob,
I have no idea, but l can tell you that they have the size of a smallie with the fight of a spot... Also, when you first catch one, it can look just like a smallmouth, and then it's markings will turn green in the live well... Sometimes the only way to identify them is they will have a tooth patch on their tounge like a spot....I used to fish a smallmouth only club, and more than once I have had a good fish turn green in the live well...
